What is it with English Companys ?
By: thompy Date: February 11, 2015, 3:07 am

Can someone shed some light on why Some English companys will
not post to Norn Iron !
Been on a few websites and go through to purchase something,
only to find at checkout "we only post to Mainland UK"
Whats that all about ? Royal mail to the Mainland, is the same
to Norn Iron.
And before anyone asks, it was for a scope, not flammable's or
liquids.
pity as it was £30 cheaper than anywhere else !

Some sellers and shops have accounts with couriers other than
royal mail, so if the courier commands a premium to deliver to
here then the seller must also charge extra. I do think that
they try to make a few quid themselves though.

One eBay seller wouldn't post to here so I went into royalmail
postage estimator and put in the particulars of what I wanted
posted and took a screenshot of it and emailed it to the seller
who then agreed to post! This was after phoning them and being
told that it would cost far too much to post to ni!

Having worked for UK Companies both in NI and the Mainland, most
people think NI is Ireland, and therefore a different country.
Ive bought and sold hundreds of items on Ebay and costs are the
same for Royal Mail and parcel force. Courier services tend to
be more expensive.
As an example of the general ignorance, I once had to point out
when asked to 'nip' to Cork from Roscommon, that if they looked
at the map, the small one in the middle was actually the Isle of
Man, not the island of Ireland!
I know it sounds like a generalisation, but really, the level of
ignorance is frightening!

The level of ignorance across the pond is staggering. Im back
and forward with work regularly. I have been asked everything
from "do you use Euros" to "do you have Sky over there!
Yes, a sizeable amount of the english aren't aware that NI is
part of the UK, its all Ireland as far as they see it. There is
also a bit of the "little englander" approach from some of them.
Really gets on my goat, as I've faced these postage issues
time and time and time again. Its just ignorance, but if they
don't want the business, Im happy to go elsewhere.
