Hi all, am only a couple of weeks in to my FAC application so
getting ready for the long haul! Am looking forward to my HW97k
Synthetic, hopefully! My question is, if away shooting on
another permission and having to stay away overnight, what is
the recommended method of keeping a weapon away from home for a
night, locked in the boot of the car?

This subject can be a bit of a minefield. In answer to your
question about storing in a car, this is generally a no go. Your
car hasn't been approved for firearm storage, so it won't be an
authorised place of retention. Retention being the key word
here. You can transport firearms in many different ways,
including the boot of your car. This is providing you are
abiding my your certificate conditions. I.E secured to the
vehicle etc. The question is at what point does the firearm
become retained in the car? If you don't leave the car, you are
technically still in possession of the firearm. If you do leave
the car, you are then storing your firearm in contravention of
your certificate conditions. I could talk for ages about
speculative methods relating to your question, but what some
people do is leave their firearm into the closest firearms
dealer for overnight storage. Police stations may even
       accommodate this.
