.22 semi-auto pistol question.

Right guys, wee query for any of you handgun shooters out there.
Why is it that 99.9% of all .22 semi auto pistols available only
come with a 10 round magazine? Even the conversion kits have the
10 round mags. Has anyone even seen after market higher capacity
magazines out there for them ?

Most .22 pistols have thin grips so they can be shot by people
with smaller hands. This restricts the magazines to single stack
most of the time, which limits the amount of rounds a mag can
take if you want it to sit flush with the base of the grip. 10
is a good number for new shooters to count to (anything over and
people seem to forget what's left in the mag more often than
not), so it may be partially safety orientated? Just guessing
here.

Also, rimmed cartridges can very easily rim-lock in double
stacked mags.
The Ruger charger takes 10/22 mags, so 25+ mags are possible.

We thought of that grip issue, but the likes of the Chiappa is a
beretta 92 clone, and the Tanfoglio is a CZ 75 rep in
dimensions, and with the .22lr being that much smaller than the
likes of a 9mm or .40 the grip width theory doesn't really stand
up.
A few of us reckoned it all came down to safety. We reckon it
may have something to do with the fact that it's a rim fire case
and therefore safer being single stack than twin.

I have +4 follower conversions for my Sig 1911-22 which brings
the magazine round count up to 14 from 10.
Colt 1911-22 have 12 round magazines available but slightly
harder to get.
I have not seen a true double stack .22lr that actually feeds
correctly.
As already stated by others, most .22lr magazines are single
stack for the feeding reliability reason. A number of
manufacturers are US market oriented and build magazines to
state restrictions that allow no more than 10 rounds in a
magazine. CA is an example of that.
