Stalking from a Vehicle..?
By: Miroku38 Date: December 23, 2012, 7:25 pm

Anyone do it, and if so, what vehicle do you use and what do you
use as a rest...?
I currently have a freelander, and I find it a bit tight to
drive and shoot from the driver side, although I've taken one or
two shots from leaning on the wing mirror...
Curious as I have a large, hilly area to cover an it's easier on
my hips to drive...

Wee bump for this one.
I'm also curious to hear the replies from anyone in the know.
Someone was telling me its ILLEGAL to shoot from any "motorised"
vehicle. Personally I thinks it's BS. Obviously you wouldnt
shoot from the public road, but if your up the backlanes &
shooting safely, i can't see what the problem would be.
Wee lamp mainly from a jeep or the mule.
Its handier to shoot from the passenger side if we're in the
jeep - Im right handed. If we are in the mule, the roof is the
perfect height for shooting from - so long as foxy plays ball
;D

I used to have a Nissan Navara we had a roof mounted lamp and
shot from the back leaning over the roof-worked really well and
had 3 in the back one night although I did it myself to-the lamp
is remote from inside the cab so would find quarry and get out
to shot over the bonnet!!
It wasn't handy and pickup hard to fuel esp in 4x4 so use a quad
now!!
223 think the topic is based on off road shooting!!

One of the problems I have is I go out alone, driving and
shooting...
See something, and by the time I stop, faff around getting my
rife over to my side and out the window and chamber a round he
it frequently too late...
I have a nice set up for shooting out the back window of my
freelander, but this is stationary...
I do have the 3 door with a removable roof, so that's an option
to make it pickup like (bit crap in the rain the as your seats
get wet)
I've also tried removing the sun roof, but to much fuss and not
enough space to lean forward for a shot
I'd love a quad, it s my ultimate solo shooting option, but wife
would kill me... :o)

we use a mates mitsubishi pajero, one driving, and the shooter
lamping until a fox is seen, then the vehicle stops, the driver
takes over the lamp and the shooter stands out the sunroof,
leaning the rifle on the roof with the bipod. gives a good field
of view over obstacles (hedges, folds in the gound, etc) and its
safer as youre shooting down into the ground.
think the exact wording is youre not allowed to shoot within 15
metres of a road or public right of way if it endangers or
inconveniences another road user, need to double check, because
you can be in a bit of bother even when setting up a pigeon hide
if its too close to the road, but as for the vehicles we only
shoot from it in the land were on. plus its a bit iffy shooting
from the road as technically no permission to shoot there
(unless its a private lane...?). as far as ive been told its
legal to shoot foxes and possibly rabbits from a vehicle but
nothing else - game (such as hares and deer) and birds (crows
etc) are a complete no no, a guy was done for it in fermanagh a
few months ago

ps link says he was done for shooting from a road too, so there
you go...

Regarding the boy in Fermanagh, did he get done for other
offences at that time?
No mention of obsessing weapon without current FAC?
