AIR ARMS S510 XTRA Carbine 30 ft-lbs
By: John2000 Date: August 6, 2014, 4:12 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Hello All
I'm new to this forum so hello to everybody. I have enjoyed
reading some posts since I discovered this forum yesterday so I
have decided to post a topic which I hope has not been covered
before -if it has then somebody might like to point it out. :D
As this title suggests I am interested in getting an S510 XTRA
30 ft-lbs in the carbine length. I notice some members here have
the S510 in rifle length but does anybody have the carbine
length?
I spoke with my RFD about getting the carbine model but he was a
bit reluctant to get one (of coarse he will get one if I insist)
but he reckoned that the shot count will be low compared to the
rifle length.
I have seen the S510 Xtra rifle and it is not to my personal
taste - the air cylinder and the barrel are too long. I much
prefer how the carbine looks.
I am interested in the amount of full power shots the carbine
will deliver and also how flat the power curve will be in the
working range.
I am also a little concerned with the position of the safety on
the trigger balde. Has anybody had an issue with this. In my
opinion the safety should be located elsewhere away from the
trigger balde but thats just me.
I was also considering the Daystate Regal XL 30 ft-lbs but I
have read that there are issues with the bolt sticking?
How do people feel the S510 compares to the Regal XL.
Just to add that any PCP I purchase will be full power (30 ft-lb
approx) and cost is not a factor.
Thanks in advance for reading
I look forward to any opinions.

S510's are class rifles. The carbine model may look nicer,
but the shot count is reduced and so is the power. I shot
the carbine S510 non regulated rifle and you got about
26 full power shots and that was producing 24ft/lb.
26 shots may be more enough shots depending on your
intended shooting.

Hello and thanks for the reply.
26 shots would be enough in an evenings hunting but 24 ft-lbs is
not desirable.
I currently shoot a Webley Raider 10 @ 20 ft-lbs giving almost
30-35 full power shots so I dont see a major advantage in going
up 4 ft-lbs.
My Webley shoots flat at 35m (pellet on pellet in fact) but
there is serious pellet drop at 50m (more than 100mm below point
of aim)
I can use holdover at 50m with the Webley but its just another
variable to add to the equation.
I use the rifle solely as a pest control tool so when I miss a
bunny at 50-60m the farmer is not very happy. :(
The reason for increasing to 30 ft-lbs will hopefully eliminate
pellet drop at 50m and improve my success rate.
Anybody out there got any opinions on the Daystate Regal XL?
Tahnks for looking :D

Hi John, welcome, I have the S510 .22 FAC Carbine in Superlite,
I get about 30 good shots and its putting out 28-30 ft lbs
depending on the pellet i use, I am very happy with it and have
had some good evenings out rabbit hunting, I actually use it
more than I do my .22 lr for 30 to 50 yd shooting, you can take
shots with an air rifle that you would never consider with a bim
fire, I'm sure if you get one you will be more than happy with
it and if your ever in the ballymena area drop me a message and
you can call and see mine.
Cheers artie

Hi Artie
Thank you for the information and your kind offer. However as I
live in Cork its unlikely I will be up your way but the offer is
very much appreciated. :)
30 shots at 28-30ft/lb are the numbers that interest me. I must
say I love my Webley Raider, in fact my shotgun and 17 rim fire
are getting no use since I got the Air Rifle but quarry at the
50m mark with the Webley are challenging with holdover.
You mentioned something that is interesting to me which is the
word 'superlite'. I would like to get an ambidexterous stock. Am
I correct in saying the superlite has ambidexterous stock?
I asked the RFD to check this out and he came back to me saying
the only ambi-stock available for the S510 XTRA Carbine is
Hunters green but thats all he knows.
Is the Hunters green a laminate stock? I like Walnut stocks.
Thanks again.

Hi mine is in the hunters green, but i can only see a tinge of
green in it , its not like camo green, it very close to the
photos on Air Arms website, you should go on to the air arms
owners club forum, plenty more info on there, tks artie
