After speaking to a few people who have submitted variations
lately, it seems that if you have any kind of criminal record
you should expect to wait far longer than those with no record.

So you see an old dear coming home from bingo getting mugged and
beaten by 2 thugs. Are you telling me you're going to stand
there and let it happen? Some people with records have them
because they done the right thing at the time, but the law
wasn't on their side because the thugs have rights. Your comment
       is ridiculous.

so your advocating that variations should be quicker at the
expense of carring out the proper ckecks now that is a
       ridiculous..........
my point is that all checks have to be done to assertain if that
person is fit and proper to hold said firearm for purpose they
say and if they have a need,,,, as for the old dears comment
that sir is an area i have first hand experiance and i can tell
you for FACT many times it is better to say nothing rather than
get involved.....not the right thing but that is society now
adays and i can tell you for fact that nowadays i would do
nothing that would put my cert at risk unless it involved my own
       family......

Hiding behind your certificate then? Those who currently have
criminal records that hold certificates should not be subject to
discrimination. They are paying for the exact same service as
those without records. Lets be realistic. How long does it take
the police to do a full in depth record check of somebody? On
initial application they could have it done in a week. For a
variation? What further checks need to be done? You may have
first hand experience of situations where conflict is a
possibility (Who doesn't?), but to say that you would not
jeopardise your certificate to potentially save a life speaks
       volumes.

No counter argument? If you've nothing constructive to say in
the first place then don't say it.
