Storage Options

Hi all,
Well my probation year at the club is up, but have run into a
problem getting the ball rolling for a fac. I dont have the home
owners permission to store firearms. It's frustrating but
understandable as one of them was held at gun point in the 80's.
On the fac application there is an option to apply to store your
firearm at another fac holders premises. So does anyone know if
rfds can provide a permanent storage service, or if there is any
other option short of moving house? My old school has a shooting
team complete with safes etc, but hesitant to contact them,
though it may be my best shot. Any thoughts?
To make things worse, the pistol i'm after has shown up on
gundeal, chomping at the bit here!

Contact the Firearms licensing and see your real options.
I would be hesitant about your old school, access for starters.
If you do not have a safe at your house, you have to pick up
your pistol the day you are going shooting and leave it back
once you are finished, you can not pick it up on Friday
afternoon, and drop it back on Monday. You would need a safe to
keep it in over the weekend, hence your current problem. Same
for a RFD.
Your best option may be your club. They may agree to store it
for you as a long term temporary measure. What would you do
about ammunition then?
I'm not trying to be difficult , just giving an outside
perspective.

Thanks for the pm, C. Youve both touched on something i forgot
to mention. I did talk to a senior club member, not the
secretary, about leaving it with the club but he seemed to think
it would have to be on one of the club officials ticket, which
they more than likely wouldn't be prepared to do. I would be
happy paying an additional yearly fee just for storage but it
might not be an option. The school is close to where i live and
I was involved with the shooting team for a while, but access is
what im worried about. I would have to go through a lot of
channels to even get a shot at approval for keys to the safe, so
its a last resort.
The range provides ammunition so im happy enough buying as I go.
C, phoning a shooting association or the psni firearms
department is the next step, along with a proper chat with the
head of the club, thanks for the advice.
I'm after the browning 1911-22. Looks like a great low cost
introduction to the platform. Was initially after a 9mm ria but
they look like a hassle and quite expensive to source and ship.
The browning is at least in the country at a reasonable price!

If the club has club firearms then it must also have a club
certificate. This certificate should be in the possession of the
clubs shooting secretary, who may also have his own personal
FAC. If they wanted to cater for you they could put the gun on
the clubs certificate. That way it would have to be stored at
the club or wherever the club firearms are legally stored.
The gun will however not be yours unless you have it on your
certificate and the clubs certificate. i.e a shared firearm. The
police have made provisions for these situations on the
application forms, and will have encountered more complicated
situations than this. Really it's down to whether or not your
club will support you. The school is a bad idea and the police
will question your logic if you mention it, as it would be near
impossible for the arrangements to go smoothly, especially where
handguns and children are concerned. The Browning 1911-22 is not
a full size replica. It is smaller than the other .22 1911's on
the market, so fitting aftermarket grips and sights etc isn't
really an option with the Browning. The Umarex 1911's are a
better buy in my opinion. First hand experience has shown them
to be reliable, comfortable and accurate.

I would almost guarantee you would not get permission for the
school safe, Access, Child protection, Additional insurance
issues, access to other firearms etc.
I would agree with Dancake on the Browning. It is about 85%
scale. I have the Sig/GSG 1911-22 and it runs beautifully.
Especially with my 14 round mags (+4 followers installed)!!!!
1911 are lovely in any caliber :) !!!

Thanks Dancake, didnt know that about shared firearms,
definitely worth a look! Firearms dept opens tomorrow again so
will give em a ring. The 85% size is actually what got me
interested in the browning. The light weight suits the calibre
more than a full size. The extremely small sights and parts
availability might be problematic... There is a new version, the
black label, with all the standard extras including upgraded
sights. Polymer frame though, not sure how I feel about that.

You def need to shoot the Umarex or Sig 1911-22s as they are
perfect for the .22HV rounds.
I would almost guarantee that you will like them as well if not
better.
Depending on which club you are in I am sure there is someone
who has one and can let you have a go.
