All depends on what you mean by general vermin. Looked into them
before, havnt used one so don't take this as fact, just
conclusions I came to. seem good on paper but in simple terms
they're a beefed up 17hmr. Pros would be very flat shooting,
cons are it get knocked about by the wind alot more than say a
.223 would, less ammo/rifle choice, not as easy to reload as
.223 (from what i read) etc.
But again depends what you mean by general vermin, if you're
mainly shooting crows, rabbits, etc, its probably overkill,
however if its mainly fox the rounds could be a bit light. Seems
to be alot of interest in the .204 ruger lately, if you defo
need a centrefire but don't want a .223 etc

Does anyone on here either have a Rem 17 or know someone that
has ? They dont seem to be a popular calibre.

Defender stick to 222/223/22#250 mate more rifle ammo choice and
better sell on value if u decided to sell the rifle on My mate
bought 17rem and hated it to light on a windy ngt foxing plus
the barrel needed good cleaning due to fast powder burn Switched
to 223 like myself great round And with the mentioned calibers
if u wanted to go to scotland u can use it on ROE Chinese water
deer and muntjac ;)
