You'll not go wrong with a Nikon scope. I've a 4-12x40 Prostaff
with the BDC reticle on my hmr, and in the past I've had a
3-9x40 Prostaff Nikoplex. Good scopes, holds zero well and
they're good in low light.

The 3-9x40 with the nikoplex ret was bought secondhand off one
of the forums for around £60 / £70. The 4-12x40 has the BDC ret,
and was bought new about 3 years ago along with my hmr for £160.
I know one other RFD, was looking £220 for the same scope at
that time.

The BDC ret will give you plenty of aim points. It's also handy
for range finding. The diagram below gives reticle dimensions in
inches at x9 mag @ 100yds.
