Deer Stalking Course

Has anyone done their DSC in northern ireland, wither through
B.A.S.C or S.A.C.S. I will be doing mine in 4 weeks through
S.A.C.S IN Coleraine and was wondering has anyone any pointers.

I did mine with the BDS last year. Thought it was very good tbh.
A lot of info to get through.

Read the manual sent out and learn the deer identifications.
Safety is the big one to remember and requires 100% pass rate.
It is not hard if common sense is used.
Listen, take notes and do not hesitate in asking questions if
you do not understand.
AND have fun learning. You will be grand!!!

I am a sacs member and hold them with high regard
I have also done the course and passed. I also done the HCAP
course down south and passed, it was much more difficult !
However, it doesn't inspire me with much faith when some people
cant tell the difference between a roe and a red. Then they are
taken to the side during the tea break and some how pass that
part !
This happened when I did the course a few years ago.
It also happened on two separate occasions within the past year
with the deer recognition test
Also, when I did it, 1 guy shot the wrong target on the range
(granted no big issue, but we were told that would be a fail)
the same guy passed
Also, one fella stated he never fired a centre fire before and
proceeded to split his forehead open on the scope when he fired
I'm not knocking the course and I think it is right to be done
But flip me when you are taken to the side and given the
answers, where is the learning in that ?
I would like to know the % pass/fail rate

Trust me I hate spending money and would of cried if I had
failed and had to pay for a re-sit, that's why I had done
several weeks studying. But for people to turn up not knowing
the basics and still pass makes a bit of a mockery of the whole
thing.
It's like someone doing their driving test, not knowing the
Highway Code or road signs and being given their licence anyway
and being let out to drive anyway they like. A test is a test
and should be treated as such

Is it still DSC1 no matter who you do it with?
I know of lads who failed the BDS one!

They are not all DSC. BASC & BDS hold DSC however SACS is a
deer rifle course.
Sacs version was created, in northern ireland, for the psni to
grant deer rifle calibers for land. (shooting deer not foxes)
DSC1 would allow you to shoot large estates & join syndicates
(mainly Scotland) as they generally do not recognise the sacs
course.
Having passed the dsc1 and read through the sacs version
handbook, they seem to be pretty similar.
Its horses for courses really. DSC probably better if you want
to shoot a lot in Scotland or syndicates however probably most
guys over here wont.
I believe the sacs is a fair bit cheaper too
