I've never seen one for real in my life, there must still be
very few around ,, so why lift the ban? Makes no sense

This is a rally interesting topic, it,s Twenty years since I,ve
seen wild hares/boxing in the local fields.
I,ve heard plenty of arguments about the ban etc and even heard
some info about the scientific evidence proving that there
aren,t actually any native Irish hare left on the island as they
are not actually genetically pure.
But since I.m not an expert and am not involved in any hare
sports then I never thought anything more about it.

there is plenty of hare in certain places...
there was never an outright ban , it was only a temperary
protection order..
there is also a good few brown hare over here as well

I used to go out with my Dad with the greyhounds quite a few
years back and saw quite a few. I think one of the major
downturn in numbers is the change in farming over the years,
larger intensive farming. Not so many wee dry fields with long
natural grass for them to den in.
They always gave even the best dogs a good run if you gave them
a good head start.
By the way not a knock against the farmers, could not do without
them, we all need to eat.

I know of an area full of them and why the temporary ban came
in. Boys were netting them for coursing then the (english i
think) female minister for that sort of thing brought the ban in
to stop netting for coursing but also imposed a shooting ban at
same time to make it seem politically correct. It has hundreds
now in a very small area to the extent that they are starting to
become a problem. They should be trapped and put in other areas.
:)
Rant over!!

i know a few places that hold a decent number of hares , never
have shot 1 and never will although when i had lurchers and
whippets they gave 1 or 2 a run but never ever caught 1 , the
places where i see most numbers is on land that is heavily
lamped for foxes by riflemen
