larsen trap for magpies

Does anyone trap magpies this way. Have done it in the past with
good results.
Tried eggs and bait in the trap but no joy. But once u get one
as the call bird all hell breaks loose.
My question? Whens the best time of year for doing it is it now
when their starting to pair seeking out their territory.
Seems to be alot of them about.

I used to always catch my first call bird in the spring time
using a made up nest and a couple of hens eggs. Crack one and
leave it on top of the trap and then another egg in a nest in
the trap. you should get one within a few days. I only ever
tried it in the spring time, maybe from the end of this month.
Eggs will be a part of their natural diet from then on. Once you
get the first then it becomes very effective.

Cheers woodcock. Yea its just the matter of getting the first
bird to get started. Its seem a good effective way to control
them.
