Hi, can anyone recommend a good set of lightweight binoculars
for use in the field, not too expensive
       Cheers Artie

It all comes down to cash Artie. Id say you can go from £30-40
pair from Argos to a pair of Swarovski at silly money.
What are you wanting them for, dawn & dusk? - you will need
better quality glass than during the rest of daylight hours.
8X42 is a nice handy size for the field.

I would like a pair that would do all day incl. dawn and dusk,
       something below £100 if possible, I was thinking of 8 - 20 X 21
but maybe they wouldn't have a big enough field of view or no
take enough light in for dawn / dusk use

Keep away from variable power if you're looking for decent
dusk/dawn performance. The more lenses that the light has to go
       through, the more you'll lose.
A pair of Bushnells would probably be as good as any within your
       budget.

Probably something like these unless you are looking a wee
       compact set.
I bought the cheapest ones as only needed from time to time.

those Bushnell ones look good. going into local outdoor shop
       tomorrow to see a few.

Sorry Artie for hi jacking your thread.
Is there anything decent on youtube to show how to focus the
       friggers properly!
       Cheers, monty

If testing binoculars in a shop make sure to test them outside
if you can and not looking through a shop window. Variable mag
binos are not great unless you're spending a small fortune. Real
Bushnell binos are good value. Plenty of fakers out there so
       just be careful.

       I have a pair of variable at the minute they are 10 - 20 X 50
they are ok out to 16 but too heavy to hang round neck all day
       out in the field
