       Price saving reloading pistol ammo?
       By: babbyc1000 Date: February 17, 2014, 5:31 am

A friend is talking about reloading for 9mm pistol. He's
thinking about buying one of those Dillon progressive presses
(and ignoring the advice everyone is telling him to start simple
and basic to learn the ropes ::) ). I took a look at price of
cases, etc for him (looked up prices on midway uk) but dont see
a massive cost saving when reloading pistol ammo, compared to
reloading for a centrefire rifle. Should point out he's not
interested in loading any specialty rounds etc, he's just go it
into his head he'll save a fortune by reloading.
       Anyone any thoughts?

The reload shop based in NITSA club sell dillon equipment the
guy is the agent for NI so he tells us. Lee is all you need for
9mm ammo and you are right there is not much cost savings
reloading 9mm most guys in the club reload there own to improve
       accuracy for revolver ammo 38.

ordered the lee stuff myself, ill hopefully be able to talk him
       out of it then lol

In 9mm you can by surplus stuff at about £10 a box of 50 but I
can still reload them cheaper - up to now I have just been using
       Lee as well.
The big saving would be if you were shooting 40 or 45 Cal.

Any idea how much it's working out per round for 9mm for you?

       Babby, you'll load 9mm for about 12p a pop, assuming you're
       using range picked brass.

Is that including the bullet al? 9mm seemed to be in the region
of £200 for 1000, though again I don't reload it myself so only
going by prices on midwayuk (I know they're expensive but seem
to be close to what the shops charge)

       That's assuming the following prices:
       Powder: £40 (1lb. Tub)
       Primers: £30 / 1000
       Bullets: £65 / 1000 (124gn Frontier)
It also assumes a 3.5gn powder charge and, as I said, range
       picked brass.
       Hope that helps.
       Al.

Yea, pretty much price wise as Al says.
A progressive press is the way to go for bulk pistol ammo as 1
stroke of the Ram does about 4 different actions (depending on
       the press)
