Salmon fishing 2014 regulations.

How many off you are aware off the new D.C.A.L. Regulations set
for 2014 regarding Salmon Fishing. How many off you are Salmon
anglers? Do you take for the table, or do release.?

The law is, and this has been passed and is in effect for 2014
season until rivers are above the sustainable level, which could
take 5 years or more, but now to the reality. It will be illegal
for anyone to be in possession off a dead slamon or sea trout on
all D.C.A.L waters, and a mandatory catch & release will be
inplace, not voluntary, mandatory. As soon as I get the full
details I will post them here. The loughs agency rivers remain
unaffected at this time. Also the use off treble hooks will be
illegal, only double barbless hooks to be used, or single
barbless, no worming for salmon or seatrout

Dont think i will bother paying for the licence this year, not
worth it if you cant take at least one home for the table.
Think i will stick to the shooting this year and forget about
the fishing, although when the season starts and the weather
turns might change my mind...take a few browns and dollaghan if
i can manage to get any.

if they would ban the nets and trawlers then mayabe things would
improve , i release all my fish both river and sea unless deep
hooked fish which is bleeding so im all for catch and release
but have nothing agaisnt anyone killing a fish for the table

All nets have been removed from the antrim coast since 2012. 4
licenses were reissued because ithe permits were in there
families for many years and they were afraid that if they gave
up all right then they would never get ther permits back and on
the agreement that the license owners would refrain from
fishing, and they have upheld there word due to close
monitoring, 2 licensee holders refused all terms and conditions
by D.C.A.L SO THERE PERMITS WERE REVOKED, these nets will be off
for at least 5 years or until the rivers become 25% over the
100% acceptable sustainable level. The trawlers further out to
sea are an issue. Salmon farms are also now a major concern for
the survival off the atlantic salmon in irish waters, due to
major infestation off sea lice, killing young smolts returning.

I take a good few large brown trout each year from the big
Loughs, mainly Lough Erne and the odd one from the Lower Bann in
the summer evenings. I kill a couple of salmon to eat, usually
from the foyle system. About 80% of my fish are returned and its
not a problem. I have been fishing catch and release on the Finn
for a few years now and we had it on the Lower Bann beats last
year. To be honest I'd rather eat a trout anyday.
