PAC NI info evening last night

Just to let your know, Brendy and me went along to last night's
PAC NI meeting at Edenmore, Maralin, Co Down.
George Higgins gave a talk on his wee club and their 40 year
exploits at pike fishing, both North and South of the border.
To give you an idea of this length of time, both Brendy and me
weren't even born when George and his seven mates started pike
fishing! No seriously, it's true!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, George had nearly two hours of chat and pics to tell,
and from half seven to eleven o'clock the time just flew, with
stories of twenty pounders here, and thirty pounders
there.........
For an eighty odd year man, he's still out fishing one day out
of five in the year, and by the way, he's due to become a great
grand father soon!
His wee club called the Pikers, started in 1971 ish and still
exists to this day with some original members and new younger
relatives to take the place of men who have either died or are
now too old to fish.
There must have been 50 photos to see last night with a story
about everyone of them.
And the biggest fish? I think it was 36 pounds, though Brendy
can keep me right! Other statistics too, to give you an idea of
how good these men, where, include the following;
19,400 pike caught in 40 years, (yes nineteen thousand four
hundred), with 20 over 30 pounds and George has caught 7 of
these!
And most importantly, 99.99% of all pike caught have been
returned again! to be caught again! and again! and again. One
pike from the Shannon was caught a mile from its last capture,
another20/30 pounder actually weighed less after the second
capture a year later.
Even the fact that the majority of the big pike were caught in
shallow water, was a revelation, for example, less than four
feet of water!
Colin and Stephen (two of the organisers) had a chat with me and
Brendy, so we mentioned Shootni, and gave it a plug, so
hopefully the PAC lads will be logging on soon.
You can see the PAC NI website details at
HTML https://www.facebook.com/pike.rigs.r.us?ref=stream
Or join for @£22 a year.
So the Next time the PAC talk comes up, both Brendy and me would
seriously recommend that you all go along!
Cheers, monty
