What gun for a youngster?

I have an Investarm .410 for my young fella, which he shoots
pretty well with. Problem is you dont have much room for error
and are limited in live quarry shooting. So, what calibre and
what brand do you reckon best would suit an average 10yr old? Do
I go for a dedicated junior gun or buy an adult gun and shorten
the stock?

Guess it depends on the build and size of the boy. When I was 10
I was using my fathers 12g.
What about a nice 20?

I would go for a 12 if his build is up to it

I was thinking a 20. He's not big enough for a 12 yet, purely on
size and wieght. Was half thinking of a 28, but 20 would cut out
the steps.....Webley,Yildiz and Revo do a junior gun (the Webley
comes with 2 stocks, so we could both use it, but Im not wild
keen on the look of it). The Revo is the cheapest but by some
accounts not that great?
Then I was thinking, if im gonna pay £750 for the likes of a
Webley, do I buy a 2nd hand Miroku or the like and alter the
stock?

My choice would be and will be in a few years time an escort
youth semi auto 20g. Short 13" stock 24" barrel and just over
6lb. 24-50gram shell low recoil and just £400 new.

Yeah Woodcock, I was thinking maybe semi auto too, the only
slight concern was the safety side of things, but I spose if we
start with the right ground rules it would be fine. Had a Hatsan
myself and it was sound and if I came up with a standard stock,
we could both shoot it . Then I started thinking ,what about a
Woodcock! If I could come up with a 2nd hand one, we could both
shoot it..... ;D

Mate I would stay away from a SemiAuto. A nice 20 would be
ideal, get out into a few shops and see what they have to offer.
