First hang fire with 17hmr
By: babbyc1000 Date: December 10, 2013, 3:35 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Had my first hang fire with an hmr on Saturday, on the first
shot I just got a click as if id an empty chamber. kept the
rifle pointed at the target thinking the mag wasn't seated
properly and the bolt hadnt picked up a round, and just as i
lifted my head from the stock (after waiting a few seconds) it
went off :o
Defo the first hang fire I've had with an hmr, and don't
remember ever having one with a 22, anyone else had one?

Might be worth stripping your bolt and making absolutely sure
that the firing pin and spring are spotless. If there's dirt in
there making the firing pin sticky you could get a condition
similar to a hang fire.

Just the one, pulled the trigger, click and then a split second
later, bang. I've had maybe the guts of 500 through it since, no
problems.

What ammo were you using,Babby. Was/did the case split?

Was using federal 17g, same stuff I've used in all 3 hmrs. No
case wasn't split or anything, looked fine. I've gone through 2
or 3 thousand of them (not just with the cz 455) and in that
time I've only had 1 or 2 duds and one squib round, never a hang
fire. I checked the bolt sat nite al and it was fine, put
another 50 rounds through it after the hang fire and they were
all ok. I'm just glad it happened when target shooting and not
out lamping :-\

Think mine was Federal as well. Strangely it's the round I've
had least split cases with.

I've never had any problems with split cases. Each time I've got
an hmr I've tried a few different brands and the federal ones
come out best, 3 hmrs so far and I know one other person who
only uses the same federal ammo. Hope it's a one off :-\

I started out with a few boxes Hornady, but wasn't fussed, then
tried Federal which were much better, so I bought a brick of
them. When I'd shot them, my rfd hadn't any more Federal in
stock, so I took an couple of boxes Hornady to keep me going.
They now shoot much better through my rifle than the Federal
did................ don't know if it's me shooting a bit better,
if the quality of the ammo has improved or if it's just the
barrel is well run in. Happy days anyways, Hornady can be got
for £10/box. ;D

Think my 455 has near 1000 rounds through it now, but it'll be
going early next year (hopefully) so no point buying more ammo,
doubt ill even use up what's left lol
