It's easy to get a fac now!!

Seen on the news tonight that a fella has been convicted of
killing and injuring those girls in Bellagy last year. The bit
that caught my attention was that he killed them with a shotgun
he had been granted on a fac-his fac was granted 1 year after
been cautioned by police for threatening to shoot his sisters
boyfriend!!
Think this is a case where a fac shouldnt have been given and
firearms branch has let the public down! Scary thing is that
will have been my fao that processed it!!
but to those who are worried about a fight 10 plus years ago
affecting your fac I wouldn't worry!!

By the sounds of things there are those in Firearm Licensing who
are going to have serious question to answer. We all want a
faster service from the police, but this has to come through a
more efficient service, not by cutting corners.

Fuck, thats a bit of a let down by the Fao, id have thought any
record like that and youd have to jump through some hoops to get
your aplicaion through!

In fairness the fao probably doesn't do the background check and
is told if they are safe or not but she is stationed in the
nearest police station to him so he's probably known to them!

I wouldn't have thought FEO's would be privi to polce business
considering most of them are actually civilians. This incident
will be used by Stormont as an excuse to rally up opposition
against private certificate holders in NI. On a positive note,
the news report may have informed interested parties that you
can hold a firearm certifcate over here. It amazes me how many
people assume it's impossible to get one due to the situation
here, so they don't even bother asking.

Not always sure if that is a positive thing! In my opinion
anyone serious about hunting knows all about getting an fac and
the last thing we want is more trigger happy and unsafe
shooters!!

Always surprises me how easily fac's are handed out now compared
to when I started shooting (although even then it was easier
than it had been before). Saw on the news some muppet in Tyrone
was running a terrorist training camp using a Walther .22 to
shoot balloons on a range, was under surveillance for a while
tho, thing that made me laugh was it said he would "probably
lose his fac". Probably?! Wtf?! ::)
