Calibre converters?

Anyone know much about them? Are they even legal? I've seen them
being talked about in a few places and I'm considering getting
one for the .222 to allow 22lr to be shot through it. It's not
for hunting or anything, I'm just thinking it would be a cheap
way to practise trigger pull, etc, at the club. Wouldn't be used
over the fields etc and I'd be getting the 22lr ammo at the club
and using it there (same as I do if using a club pistol etc), so
wouldn't be any issues with me not having 22lr ammo on my
licence... Any thoughts?

Dunno bout rifles but heard a boy talkin bout when he started
shooting he used a 12g which was converted to a .410. But
apparently they are now a thing of the past.

Not really a great concept Babby. It's never a great idea firing
loads of lead rounds down a barrel and then switching back to
jacketed rounds. They will immediately raise the breech pressure
of your jacketed rounds due to small lead deposits in your
rifling - admittedly to a lesser extent due to the slow nature
of the LR ammo, but it's still a possibility. This could lead to
a sudden pressure spike - something you don't want.
Another issue is that it will count as another firearm in the
eyes of FEB as it is a pressure bearing part, and yes, if you
own the converter, you would need to have the ammo allowance on
your FAC also.
I don't know if you home load, but you could load .222 for
probably less than 40p a pop, so if it's the cost of factory
fodder that's putting you off, this may be an avenue to explore.
I'd definitely say go the reloading route rather than the
converter route.

I'm starting to home load al, have all the kit just waiting to
find the powder I need. I came across calibre converters being
talked about when I was looking up how to load low power ammo,
seemed like an interesting idea; as said before they wouldn't be
for hunting, but would be a cheap way to get a bit more trigger
time with the gun, and as the club ranges aren't cleared for
centrefire yet it would be a way to use the rifle there too. But
seems like alot of hassle to go through, had a feeling it would
have to go on the fac so really not worth it then lol

Buy yourself a cheap .22 babby! You can have all the fun and at
least you have another rifle in the cupboard!!

I've no more room lol no it was just an idea to get more
practice with the .222, trigger discipline etc, too much hassle
for them though :-\

I'm the same babby-would love an hmr or starting to like the
hornet but no space!! I'm building a new house at the min so
hoping to put a 7 gun safe in to dove that problem lol!!

I've two cabinets filled at the moment plus a safe to store ammo
and bolts, think if I ever won the lottery I'd need a strong
room built lol
