Alto ye lads have sent all my forms away for my first 22 rim
fire, hoping to get a cz 455 thumbhole. As above thinking of
getting the 16" barrel so looking a silencer that isn't to long,
seen one on YouTube that went over the barrel but think it was a
17hmr, any info would be great

Hey sherif you won't need one that goes over the barrel and if
anyone tries to sell you one for it walk out of the shop!! The 2
main ones are the Parker hale mm1 (this is the one I use) and
the sak (not sure of model number).
They will prob cost around the £30/£35 mark so not dangerous
money!

Cheers mate just thinking I don't want one two long, my friend
took me out the other week for a bit of fun with his Brno and
loved it, so learning the ropes from him just hope I turn out a
better shot than him lol. His silencer was about 6" long so
don't want one that long, the one I seen was about the same size
but the treads were a few inches up inside the silencer

Firstly (just to clear up) it's a moderator that you shan't to
ask for on your fac-if you put silencer it will be refused!
The noise from the round occurs as it leaves the barrel and the
air changes so wither the threads are on the end or half way up
it doesn't make any difference. As far as I'm aware the ones
with the threads part the way up are to help with stability if
the mod is heavy so as not to damage the threads! The Parker
hale will be the longest if the two but I'd say your looking at
about 6" long! You do get other makes such as aim sport and wild
cat but your talking a few £100 and I don't know if they are any
shorter!!
Hope that makes sence!!

It's a bit poor on his part but they should know by the model of
the mod or they should ring if there is any query-wouldn't loose
any sleep over it lol

A moderator that goes over the barrel is known as a reflex
moderator. The purpose is not for stability, it is to allow the
user to have a long moderator, with minimal overhang on the
front end. The part that extends back over the barrel is an
expansion chamber, which allows the gases to expand slowly -
thereby further moderating the report from the shot. They
sometimes have a delrin (plastic) bush at the rear. This stops
unnecessary forces being applied to the threads, in the event of
the end of the moderator getting knocked.
There are a few schools of thought on how much clearance there
should be between the bush and the barrel. Some say there should
be as little as .001" of clearance, but I prefer to machine mine
with .030" clearance, to ensure that the barrel doesn't get
rubbed when fitting and removing the mod.

necessary for a .22lr!!

You're absolutely right Stewarty. There's no need whatsoever for
a reflex mod on a rimfire.
A SAK Is all the mod you'll ever need on a .22LR.
