       Which centrefire?

Im getting a growing urge to obtain a centrefire rifle, but was
wondering which calibre.... I would want it for fox control
mainly but I also have access to some deer stalking, so with
that I was thinking .243 but are they too hard to run (just to
       accomodate the odd deer)?

As far as I know the cops won't grant a dual use centrefire for
fox and deer. When I looked into it the only option seemed to be
a 22-250, psni will grant it for fox and you can take it down
south deer stalking. Just what me and another member found

As far as I'm aware they won't give you deer cals for fox incase
the rounds misses bone goes thru the fox. Like babby said 22-250
       would be best option!

I see.....that sorta takes me back to my other choice of .223
       and forget Bambi?

That's what I would do or even a .222 or .177 hornet would do
for fox (been reading great reviews on .177 hornet lately)
Deer isn't that common here so permissions are hard to get (I'm
sure sharpshooter could fill you in on it) but try not and weigh
yourself down with expensive rounds just incase you might get a
       shot at a deer someday.
Basically would go as cheap a cal as possible for fox and then
save for a .308 or something later on. That's my pennies worth
anyway (mightn't even be worth 1p)

Looking in to this myself, although it's on the long finger.
Depends if you want to get into hand loading or not . If you
just want to shoot factory ammo, .223 seems to be the best
option, as there's a good selection of ammo available, at a good
       price.
       If you fancy reloading,checkout .204ruger. It's a possibility
for me, nice flat shooting round that seems to buck the wind
well.Although the factory ammo is around a £1 a bang.

My dad has a 22 250 for fox and I've 270 for deer, my dad is
shooting prvi ammo and it's 14 quid a box and accurate in his
       rifle,

Sharpshooter, I was thinking exactly along the lines of
yourself. I just thought that it would be better to have one
rifle to do 2 jobs. I didnt realise that firearms branch wanted
you to have as many guns as possible........!!!

Sharpshooter I'm paying 15 quid for the prvi and 19 for the
Winchester super x soft points. What u paying for the 308???
Wuckfit I think it's great idea with the police allowing more
guns because you have a good reason for them... I'm planning on
putting my dads 22 250 for foxes, or I will maybe buy myself a
.220 swift the mate shoots 1 in the south and it is unreal he
can use it for deer down there aswell. Fantastic round

U must have a deer stalking certificate for any cal over 22-250
, for foxing go for 223 it's perfect and affordable + loads of
ammo choice and stops any fox on the spot
