dog training collar

Anybody used them before, or know anything about them. Was
talking to a trainer today who brought the subject up and he
would use them in certain cases. I always thought it was a bit
cruel, but I never had one so I don't know, what you think?

well as you's all seen in my photo's I do use 1. and I think
they are a great job in the right hands and as long as you give
the dog time to correct his mistakes there fine. BUT IN THE
WRONG HANDS THEY COULD BE VERY CRUEL INDEED!. ive found that the
buzzer on mine works better for controlling him than the shock

never used one so wont comment on the use of them, but i do know
a couple of boys who used them to correct dogs for chasing stock
with good success

What problems did you use it for brendy? And how good was it? I
have heard the term about in the wrong hands they can be cruel
but also very effective training tools.

Haven't used one myself . But was told if had to use one if
meant I had failed in training .. Each to their own ... What
problems you having .... Basic obedience is what I was told ..
Practice practice practice ..lol... Stop whistle ..should mean
stop no matter what the interest is ...

at present I use it as a aid to stop the dog as I got him when
he was 5yr old and has a deafness to the whistle when he gets on
to a scent, ive tried a long rope and he knows when its on him
so that doesn't work, other people tell me to give him a shake
but don't like to do that its just easier to use the collar, as
I said he seems to respond to the bell so don't normally have
to use the shock at all on him and If I do its normally turned
away down. this is the generally the only reason I use it and
have corrected a few springers with the same problem using this
method for different people. now I must say that I don't expect
a dog to stop on a 2p but do expect it to atleast try and stop
::). as far as failing in training goes, ive trained my own
present bitch from 7 months without using it once and the lab
bitch I have aswell without even hitting/shaking them. the first
springer I trained I had to sell cause I went to Australia for a
year so the guy who bought him took him to a trainer to get
polished up after a summer off and he told him that the dog was
a robot so I don't think im failing in what I do.
ive also had lurchers for years and have had a lot of older dogs
cured of stock worring by the use of the collar and always would
of put it on a new dog for the first couple of times in the
fields with me because its the invisible lead.
would I recommend 1 yes if your messing about with older dogs,
if your getting a pup then no put the time in instead, learn
your dogs character and they will urs aswell

my Dad had two of them for his dogs but I totally disagree with
them but each to their own ! my Dad actually lookin a new one
to see if it's better than the two he has that I bought of ebay
for £30 each, I think they are cruel and a short cut quick fix
that won't last, I'm lucky not to have needed one so far with my
dogs, but if they work for anyone else without bein cruel than
happy days
