Just going by what my feo got me to do several years ago,
luckily never had to do it at the time and not in that area any
more so wont be an issue; however I wouldn't class shooting a
dog that's attacking sheep as humane destruction, more of a
livestock protection issue, same as shooting foxes

Babby is right a farmer (or someone on behalf of the farmer) can
shoot a dog that is terrorising livestock! It's not on your fac
       but it is law.
It's prob not on fac as there would be a pile of yappy dogs shot
that the cert holder just didn't like!
This instant is not humane dispatch either it's just the owner
no longer wants the dog so might have a hard case to fight
       against it!!

aside from the moral issue i'd not like to be in the position
where I'd have the police at my door for shootin a dog for Any
reason unless I'd written permission from the appropriate
       authority !

I agree with what is being said but have a look at
  HTML http://www.shootingtimes.co.uk/sportinganswers/294866/What039s_the_law_on_dogs_worrying_sheep.html
You could end up being sued by the dog owner - sods law - and
       losing your guns!

I know that! But still, using any kind of firearm to kill
something that is not allowed by your licence could lead to you
losing it. If you cant abide by the conditions of your
certificate and you are caught out you could be revoked. A dog
is not vermin. A friend got his application returned because he
didnt put down what specific type of vermin he wanted to shoot.
Imagine FEB's response if he had put down springer!

Waaaay of track, but here's basc's take on it, page 2 and 3
       especially
  HTML http://www.basc.org.uk/download.cfm/docid/9F65FF5E-4A24-4411-9040F0825D4B8B8C
But then again something makes me think England is a bit
different from us. No laptop at mo so it's a nightmare trying to
look it all up on the phone, here's a link to minutes from the
NI assembly, it talks about shooting dogs further down,
nightmare trying to find the precise answer (if there is one)
