       Cocker wont retrieve crows

Took to the fields today with the trusty aul Baikal,
and my Cocker 'Ruger'. Shot a few pigeons and he
retreives no problem. About an hour later a load of
crows start flying in I manage to get a couple of
rooks but Ruger wouldnt put them in his mouth. He
would just sniff them but not lift em.
He is still young and learning, is this normal or is there
anything I can do to encourage him to lift em??
       Cheers

that's just what you want him to do snap - you don't want him
liftin dirty crows ! keep him at good eatable game birds, crows
etc could pic at his eyes if they're not dead, game birds will
not pic at a dog if they're woundies, you never know what crows
and the like have been feedin on before you shot them, they
could have been on poision bait for foxes - I'm not sayin this
is bein laid anywhere but it could happen, keep your wee cocker
on good clean birds and you have nothin to worry about

agree with semi keep him away from crows could put him off all
togather if he gets picked. never mind poison r give him a hard
mouth for when the crow picks him hell close his mouth to kill
it r shake it. there must be something bot the taste of them
that dogs don't like my own dog will pick them sometimes and
others just sniff and walk away. my advice keep the dog away
from them. ;). (PS. just goes to show you SHOW dogs havn't lost
all there instinct to hunt) ;D

not even as a present snap lol. but if he suits ur job then
happy days. hunt(and use that word widely) him during the winter
and take him to crufts in the summer ;)

No self respecting dog own should ever let there dog carry
       crows.
They eat anything including from bins and land fill sites.
And with beaks that can pierce a lamps skins it will make short
work of ur dogs eye's if you only wing it.
I may sound harsh but if it save a dogs eyes or life im happy
