Lamping???

Never done the 'lamping thing' before, even though I have been
shooting for many years. I recently bought one of those small
cree torches off ebay and mounted it to the scope of my .22lr -
took it out to a field up the back of my house to try it out.
The power of these wee torches is very impressive and I couldn't
believe the number of rabbits it showed up. I'm sure there are
much better options than the torch I bought, however mine give
good light out to 50-60 yards and the scope had no problem
picking up the target. I only shot the one rabbit as I was only
out for a few minutes, but I am looking forward to getting out
again over the next few evenings.........was great craic.

well done it not be long to you get the lamping bug. late nights
then up the next morning, not knowing if you've been asleep r
not, saying im not doing that again then next time you take a
notion saying to urself ill not stay out as late but always just
duking round the next corner end up even later and waking up the
next morning eyes rolling in ur head. lol does this sound bot
right anyone!!! ::) pmsl . but all good crack at the time. ;)

I'd rather be on the drink, least I've a reason to be staggering
round like a zombie next day lol having said that there's been a
few lamping sessions where Ive walked into the house as the sun
comes up ::)

Yep, out with my wee Cree eBay special lamp last night too.
Pouring down and foggy. Saw a good few rabbits but I was the one
lamping last night so got no shots off before the fog became too
thick.
As I stagger around at work this morning I am wondering if a 3
hour return trip is too much for a weeknight lamping session..

It makes you wonder why some folk splash out £100 plus for lamps
etc when these little torches can give equal, or better
performance for a few quid.

lol just messing
I prefer a large spotlight type to scan with and spot eyes up to
300 yards away (or more), and I use a green laser torch mounted
to the gun so for the actual shooting, the beam on it can be
focused to illuminate foxes and rabbits well over 200 yards.
Spotlight is a b&q £30 special (poor battery life tho) and the
green laser is a cheap chinese copy of the nd3, still cost over
£80 tho worth every penny. Again it depends on the torch and the
gun, but most of those Cree torches are 100 yards max (assuming
its a high power version) and that's also without a red filter,
I've one that shows the field like daylight to near 100 yards
but the red filter cuts the usable range down to 25 or 30 yards,
ok for pigeons or rats in barns but quite a limitation when
youre using a 17 hmr or 222 like I do! Also if you don't use a
filter you increase the chances of making the rabbits lampshy;
doesn't always happen (and they can get shy with filters too)
but in most cases a filter is the best option ;)

Get urself a led lenser gun kit u get a p7 200 lumen torch scope
clamp and a pressure switch 4aaa batterys
U will spot eyes at 200yards and see them at 120 battery's will
last a few night's

I got a deban tracer torch. 240 metre beam. And a great battery
life. Id highly recommend it.

Wasn't a great job tho, was almost too bright for what I needed,
and it didn't come with a red filter; I tried to use some red
film I'd used on other torches and it melted! Also it had a warm
up time of about 10 seconds, bit of a pain... But it was handy
carried and didn't have to worry about seperate battery packs
lol
