Getting 2 .17's

Would there be a problem if one wished to get a .17 Mach 2 when
they already have a .17 HMR? The stated uses for both are
similar, so would getting both be a problem?

beanie as somebody who knows nothin about rifles what's the
difference in the two calibres and what are they used for ?

The HMR is a 17gr propelled by a necked down 22 WMR case, whilst
the HM2 is also a 17gr but propelled by a necked down 22lr
stinger case. They both have better range than the 22lr, but
the HMR is the more powerful of the two.

I dont know that much of the 'technical' side of rifles but why
would two calibres that are so similar be needed?

I already have a 22lr and HMR - the HM2 is a very accurate round
and will easily take rabbits out to 130 yards without the damage
caused by the HMR - rounds are also much cheaper than the HMR so
it is more of a 'plinking' gun but still packs a fair punch. The
lads at Elite Guns in Newry rate them highly and consider them a
better 'rabbit gun' than the HMR. I'm just curious to find out
if it is possible to own both.

Yeah, was thinking along those lines since the HM2 is a bit
quieter tha the HMR.
