Hi mate I use a digital safe bolted to the wall. It's was got in
Argos I think and only cost £30 or £40.

Cheers, have a safe for the rifle bolts and ammo but a couple of
shops have been telling me I need a large wooden box for it,
that just happens to cost £80+ ::)

Don't store powder in a steel safe. What you have there is
effectively a bomb - an ultra fast burning material in an
       enclosed environment.
The wooden box is only a legal requirement for the storage of
       black powder, not nitro powder.

Cheers, as long as its legal ill worry about the blowing up bit
later lol tho tbh I'd rather it was secured better than a locked
       wooden box

Can you clad the box safe in wood, say plywood?

No Monty, it's the fact that when the nitro powder burns the gas
expands very quickly - that's what gives you the velocity. If
this burning process takes place in the confines of a pressure
vessel (which the safe has become as the powder burns inside
it), the pressure builds until the walls of the safe let go. By
this stage, it has easily enough energy to flatten a house. A
wooden box will burn slowly and allow the powder to burn off at
       atmospheric pressure. Much safer!

True but although its a safe it's nowhere near as sturdy as a
cabinet, came out of argos years ago when I needed something to
store a bolt in, the door would blow out long before it got to
house flattening pressures. I'd just prefer the powder kept in
something that couldn't be lifted or easily cut/hacked into,
plus worst case scenario if it did go up its not surrounded by
       flammable wood :-\
