       Wrong serial number woes...

I'm just about to get my FAC signed-off sent out and - blam!:
the dealer has 'accidentally' sold my shotgun to another party.
He has another of the exact same model but of course it'll have
       a different serial number.
Is there a workaround (either at firearms branch or RFD level)
or is that me stuffed and will have to go through the whole
       variation process again from scratch?

Nah, should be easy enough to change a serial number....
Talk to your RFD they should give advice, if not phone
       firearms...
Assume you'll need to put something in writing, but shouldn't be
       a need to reapply...
Remember it the type of firearm you are being assessed for in a
       variation, not the serial number...

Fair play I suppose. The dealer's on the mainland so it's a
little bit more awkward but I'll get them to give FB a ring and
explain. Had nightmares about the 'long wait' again...
       Thanks. :)

       I bought ( as I thought ) a .17hmr from a certain gentleman gun
dealer (we'll say) and when I got it home I realised it was a
.22 lr. It was on my FAC as a .17hmr with the serial number of
the .22lr. I took it straight back and the dealer said he would
deal with it. He phoned thru straight away and explained the
situation, they asked me to send back my FAC and it was sorted
       in less than two weeks.
To be honest I think these dealers all have a good relationship
wi the people who issue our FACs and if they make the mistake
then it should be sorted pretty soon. I'd get the dealer to
phone and explain the situation or phone yourself and explain,
you should find that they are pretty understanding and sort it
       for you....
This situation and my situation should never happen, the dealer
shouldn't make mistakes like that... The dealer I dealt with on
this occasion was about 106 so I put it down to old age... Lol

Turned out well in the end. Firearms had no qualms and FAC was
       sent out several days later.
       Thanks for the reassurance. :)

Hi 772, glad you got sorted and that some of the lads could come
       up with some solutions ..........
Proves that the anoraks out there, always have an answer to even
       the weirdest question!
(I also count myself as an anorak, though not the biggest, or
heaviest or dullest or oldest but maybe the ugliest)
Anyway, if any of our GUESTS are viewing this, or any SHOOTNI
Virgins (who,ve never posted anything on the forum) then this
post is the perfect example of one that has helped new members
during one of their first posts.
(Sorry 772 if I laid that in a bit thick)
       Monty
