Nearly 5 months for variation, PSNI firearms

Have a semi auto shotgun and .22LR already on my firearms cert.
I put in for a .223 in may.!
Still no word back. I have heard there is a back log, but to be
honest I'm hearing people talking about back logs every year for
years now in processing applications.
I presume all the references and vetting would have been done
originally to get granted a firearms certificate here in NI in
the first place. So how does it take so long to add a new
calibered rifle to my cert or do i have to be vetted again with
all references and stuff rechecked from scratch or how could it
take so long.?
Or is it just the system over here or what?
Anyone else waiting etc?
Anyone shed light.?
Have been searching online to see if the department give a
generic or average time frame, but can't find any info on that..
Getting peeved off now to be honest, much as I appreciate care
has to be taken before granting firearms.

My mate has a semi auto shotgun and an air rifle on his FAC, he
recently bought a .17HMR and had his FAC back within 3 weeks.
To be honest I thought this was very fast but maybe the bigger
centre fire rifles take longer...??

Just sold the air rifle and bought a 22lr, sent the license off
on Friday, hope it does not take that long as have nothing else
to go out with. Concentrating on the fishing but really was
expecting about 5 weeks not 5 months.
While I was in McCloys gun shop someone else came in with his
licence adding on a shotgun and he got his back in 2 weeks, it's
a total lottery!!

Cheers lads.. The FEO was out with a few weeks.. It's from that
stage that I've heard nowt. Got the usual letter to say my
application was received and that the letter was to be used to
purchase ammo etc. Paid a deposit on a gun in Tannyoky, when I
rang them to tell them the craic they said that people are on
complaining like mad as they are having no word. Strange to hear
you guys are sorted within weeks..!

I don't know about that. FEO's have a lot of paperwork amongst
other things to do for every certificate holder in their
constituency. They may be acting on instructons coming from
higher authorities to check security arrangements for specific
individuals/postcode areas etc. In their line of work they have
to tread very carefully. Any mistake could easily be
misconstrued.

i thought they only came out when it was adding a new
calibre/gun that was different and possibly be more dangerous
than you already have, eg having a shotgun and adding a 22lr, or
having a shotgun and 22lr and adding a .223. any time ive had
visits when adding new calibres (.17hmr and .222 rifles) its
been put across that theyre interviewing me to make sure i have
enough experience for them to grant me the gun i want, and to
make sure im a safe enough shot (or to be cynical, that i can
give them the right answers).
only time i didnt have a visit was when i swapped a 22lr for a
22 air rifle

Ive had a 7 day turnaround for my latest renewal, so something
not right about the length of time you have been waiting.
