I'm not a rifle man myself but as far as I know from hearin my
mates talk the .17 is legal for foxes, it would depend on the
distance you'd wanna take the shots but a .17 should be good to
around 175 yards give or take, some of the rifle lads will
hopefully give you better advice from experience

I have a .222 but was thinking if the 17 Rem is legal i could
trade it in as by the looks of it the 17 is a tack driver at
       distance

So I take it if the 17HMR is legal the 17 Remington is too as
       its more powerful.

Ye its legal, did you know that a .243 or higher calibre is
ILLEGAL apparently its over kill, i mean how dead can a fox be,
thats the ridiculous laws we're dealing with here!!

Nuts is right, if you Deer and fox hunt then you need to
seperate guns instead of the .243 doing all!?

17 REM is a necked down 223 & would be lethal on foxes & cannot
see why it would not be legal.
Way more poke than the 17 rimfire:-
       17REM - 982 fl/lb at muzzle
       17HMR - 250ft/lb at muzzle

Check out bigsigh66 on youtube to see what 17rem is capable of.
Looks like a good round for small vermin, although they say it
can be hard on a barrel.
