I'm heading down to castlearchdale next weekend with the mrs and
       kids in the caravan
I am considering taking a rod to take the kid out for an hour or
       two fishing
Apart from my rod licence what other permits do I need and what
bait can I use legally ?
I only intend fishing for brown trout
       Cheers for any advice

Hi Brian, You need you rod licence and a DCAL permit for lough
erne. The cheapest one is for 3 days and cost £5.50 for an
adult. I get mine in Andersons in Omagh as I drive past it on
the way down. You should get it in Enniskillen too. You can fish
all legal methods. Spinning lures from the shore is a good bet,
trolling lures especially "tazmanian devils" slowly behind a
boat is even better. If your really serious about catching a
fish though, flyfishing last thing at night and even into the
dark and again at first light in the morning is your best chance
of a few trout. There should be good hatches of sedges currently
and provided its calm at night the trout will feed on them. You
will see the rings on the calm water. Fish your sedge imitations
"dry" on the surface and cast to rising fish. You might get
some from the shore but again a boat is a better choice. Any
more questions feel free to ask. Im not familiar with the
castlearchdale area though I think semiauto fishes that area.

       Thanks guys
I will only be fishing with the 4 year old from the shore, just
to give her something to do
I assume worms are not allowed ?? What spinners would you
       recommend ?
I am wick at fly fishing but might give it a go, what flies
would work from the shore ?
I won't be getting a boat as I imagine I will only be at it for
       an hour or two

You can fish worms no problem, but probably wont catch any
trout. Maggots are also allowed and you should have success with
those though again trout will probably not be on your list. Any
of the dry sedge pattern flies should work but only if you see
trout rising. As for spinners ordinary mepps will work or a big
copper spoon for a bit more distance.
