Reloaling

I'm sure it has been covered before but I was thinking about
starting to load my own rounds what do I need? I hope to load
for .222 and .308 I don't know the first thing about it or what
I would need any help would be appreciated. Thanks

im starting to load for .222 myself, well, a friend has got me
some of the stuff, not exactly sure what he's get yet though or
what else ive still to sort lol
i found this video helpful, very informative but doesnt melt
your brain with alot of technical info etc

The basic eqt for reloading I would say are:-
A good manual
A press
Dies
Powder measure
Scales
Vernier
De-burring tool
Case lube & a mat
Case length guage
Case trimmer
Other ancillary gear would include:-
A tumbler & media
Primer pocket cleaning tool
Case length guage
I've only been re-loading for the 223 for about a year now, so
i'm sure there will be someone more experienced than me along
shortly. Undoubtedly there are some items I have missed. >:(
The first thing Id recommend is to get a good re-loading manual
like the Hornady 8th edition. In hindsight the re-loading course
run by SACS @ £75 might have been the way to go, but I didn't
know about it at the time. Its hard to beat having someone to
ask directions to face to face.
Off course there are loads of youtube clips as well.
It can be a bit of a head wrecker tbh because there are just so
many variables when it comes to looking for the most accurate
round in your gun:-
Different powders
Different bullets
Different brass
Different primers
How much powder to use
How far to seat the bullet (jump to the lands etc... )
That turned out longer than Id planned ;D

Thanks for getting back to me. Are the reloads a lot better than
the bought round? If I was loading .222 and .308 is it just a
matter off getting the correct die to soot?

I reckon that my home loads cost 39p each whereas the factory
stuff was £1 a pop. As for being more accurate, I was getting
sub MOA with 7 different brands of factory ammo in my cz and my
home loads are sub MOA as well.
So basically I'm happy enough with what I've got.
Most of the gear mentioned above will do for different calibres
but yes the dies are calibre specific.

i know tannyoky have a good stock in, but brownells.com is very
handy

The worlds your lobster as they say. ;)
A mate of mine in Scotland got a lot of the stuff for me 2nd
hand. Some of shops here carry a lot of the gear but none of
them could carry everything. Try Tanyoky in Poyntspass, Young
Guns in Castledawson & maybe Andersons in Omagh. There might be
other shops better geared up for re-loading but I don't know of
them.
Obviously you'll get everything you need on line if you're
stuck. But as Babby says you could spend £300 or £1500 getting
geared up.
