       Hatsan escort MPA
By: Uncleblob Date: July 15, 2013, 5:49 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Last time I had applied for my licence, mid 90s, as far as I
know or was informed this type of grip wasnt allowed (combat
handgrip) - is this allowed nowadays?
I saw the post re Hatsan Escort, but doesnt really go into, is
       it now legal or not.
       Showing my nubness now...

you were never off it ya fucker!! ;D lmao!!
anyway hatsans are legal. i got one. mate has the mp (pump
action version). kinda ever so slightly totally drunk here so
       bear with me lol
cant say for sure what the craic was in the 9o's (i do remember
hearing about the ridiculous hoops people had to jump through
just for a .22lr, but look at the amount of .223's etc that are
now granted), but my hatsan mpa is the same as any other 12 ga
shotgun - limited to 2 in the mag and one in the breach. i think
(but could be wrong) that the cops have mostly got away from the
"oh that looks dangerous you cant have it" attitude, tho i
reckon the fact we dont have daft trigger happy english
squaddies tramping about the place helps things lol think theres
still a bit of bother with m4/ak47/uzi clones in 22lr, etc, but
did hear recently that while the cops dont like granting them
theres bugger all they can really do, as its essentially the
same as a ruger 10/22, though dont quote me as ive kinda moved
       on from 22lr :-\
basically as long as the gun fits the standard requirements -
24" barrel, 40" overall length, no more than 2 in the mag and 1
in the breach (unless otherwise authorised), doesnt have an
adjustable stock (as the adjustable stock is not counted towards
over all length), doesnt have a detachable magazine and a few
other things i cant quite remember (full auto should probly be
mentioned in here) then its perfectly legal to own. the question
comes down to why you'd want one, although personally i find the
pistol grip makes recoil more controllable, the fibre optic
ghost ring sights help when shooting in low light conditions,
the parkerized (or something) finish and synthetic stock make it
very hard wearing, the over all black colour helps camouflage it
from birds (doesnt stand out like my shiny brushed chrome
lanber), the rail under the forend is handy for mounting a torch
for lamping and a bipod so you dont have to leave it leaning
against walls, etc, and the 2 shells that can be held in the
stock are handy for buckshot, etc, in case you run into a fox -
its no different than a mates speedfeed stock on a mossberg, or
those elasticated stock covers that fit any shotgun and hold 5
       shells on the side.
edit - and no, before you ask i didnt get the optional door
       buster choke :P :P :P lol

Don't get me wrong theyre not the most amazing gun you'll ever
find lol the comb is far too low to get a proper cheek weld when
using the iron sights (more like a chin weld lol), a simple top
rib and bead IMO is better for hitting clays, pigeons, etc, as
the ghost ring sights can get in the way a bit for giving lead.
Comb issue is easy enough sorted though with a comb raiser and
some insulating tape, tho I'm leaving mine as it is and ill
probably get a new stock from ati for it at some point as they
come with an adjustable cheek piece. If it came down to only
having one shotgun then id pick my lanber Victoria every time as
is more of an all rounder, but the hatsan does have its uses,
its built like a tank for starters (and looks like it could take
one out as well lol ;) )
