       Open season date for pheasant!

Some think that 1st october it a bit early for pheasant, given
late broods some years, how about an extended month in feburary
and a close season in October to let the birds fully develope?

I would agree with this totally but would not limit it to
pheasant Our biggest problem is with ducks in my opinion. I have
done this my self where i have shot mallard drakes in september
which were very hard to tell apart from hens as they hadnt even
       coloured yet.

Thanks woodcock, partridge also open in september too, this may
cause some consternation because if we take september out of the
equation then we lose a months shooting? would it be preferable
to keep september a close season for all game and wildfowl?

Partridges in ni tend to be a reared species brought on in
heated houses or release pens and usually fully grown or
designed to be by the time 1st sept comes. To stop partridge
shooting in sept would be a contentious issue with the
       commercial shoots.

Partridge shooting doesnt really extend past christmas on the
big shoots. Cleggan lodge where I done some beating doesnt
anyway and Im not sure any of the others do.

I agree with you guys, for years now I've been sayin our shootin
season should start a month later and end a month later, the
only problem with this is were you'll have wild birds starting
to pair up in February, but with comershal shoots there is now
reason they can't bring their birds in at the same time and give
them a months feedin allowin them to fill out & grow tails,
clubs could bring their birds in a month later if cost was a big
factor, migratin birds like woodcock often need time to recoup
their energy levels when they arrive in givin them an extra
month into November would do a lot for their conditionin and
would provide better quality huntin and shootin.
I personally haven't shot any birds in the first month of their
legal openin, for about 8/10 years I've been holdin back a month
before I shoot anythin, like woodcock1 says about ducks ~ How
can anyone tell at night if ducks are young or adult fully
feathered & coloured or even early in the monrin ! in my
Father club they are buying 350 Partridge for the start of
December to add to the shoot when the pheasants are starting to
       become thin on the ground.
I would would give my vote to having out shooting season
starting one calender month later and endin at the end of
February -- I think I'll start a poll on this one IF I can
work out how to do it :)

       springerman I didn't know that you'd a poll goin and I went
ahead and started another one - Sorry mate I wasn't try to pinch
your ideas, the one I have goin is a wee bit different so it'll
not do any harm to vote on it too

myself personally i wouldnt mind starting a month later if we
could extend by a month couldnt see it making any difference to
comerical shoot ether as they would just put the hatching back a
month. plus the divers will starting to come in
