Lanber Victoria Lux semi auto 12ga - review

hmm i feel all professional posting this lol someone asked me
recently about the new lanber semi auto i was picking up, cant
remember who it was (brendy maybe?) but i said id post up a bit
of a review and info on the gun once i'd used it. i managed to
fire a few shots yesterday and today, and i have to say i'm
impressed so far. i found that its very light and well balanced,
im more used to heavy (aka bomb proof) mossberg pump actions and
semi auto's so the lanber feels light as a feather. also the
style of the gun isnt my normal cup of tea, i usually stick with
synthetic stocks and hard wearing teflon type coating instead of
normal blueing, so im going to have to be extra careful with
this as i dont want to scratch it >:(
anyway the gun itself; fit feels good (for me anyway, very good
in fact), whatever type of varnish the wood stock is coated in
makes it feel like plastic (had to take the forend off and check
inside to make sure it was wood) if you were really worried
about it you could strip that off and oil finish it, tho ill
probably leave it as it is for more durability. gun came fitted
with sling swivels, a nice red fibre optic type bead which
stands out even at dawn, and a plastic butt plate (cheap
fuckers!) but for £20 and half an hour with the disc sander i
had a proper recoil pad fitted. the pad i chose left the gun
about 1/2" longer than it was originally, i could probably have
got away with a thinner pad but was afraid it would kick like a
horse because it was such a light gun. build quality is good
with a few areas that could be improved slightly, the safety for
instance was stiff as anything at the start, but a bit of oil
and 15 minutes flicking it on and off soon loosened it up a bit.
still needs a good bit of force to knock it off but itll
probably get better with use. also the gun came with 3 choke
       tubes, a 5 year warranty, a plastic hard case/carry case, and a
great instruction manual with lots of easy to understand
diagrams and instructions - assuming you speak spanish that is
ffs ::) one other thing is that lanber are now apparantly owned
by beretta, when comparing the lanber against a beretta semi
auto you can see major similarities (especially in the gas
system), and apart from a few extra grooves in the woodwork of
the beretta they feel very similar in the shoulder too.
so far those seem to be the only draw backs, firing the gun
itself is a pleasure. it surprised me as it has very little
kick, even with 36g 4's it was easy to manage. had a few
ejection problems yesterday when test firing the gun, but only
with 28g 7.5's, which i expected to give trouble anyway as the
gun hasnt been run in yet (if theyd cycled flawlessly i would
have been shocked) so i ran a few 32g 6's and 36g 4's through it
and they worked great, even got my first kill yesterday when
test firing it, a grey back came a bit too close! went decoying
this morning and i had no problems at all with cycling/ejection,
even with 28g 7.5's. only issue i ran into this morning was that
i was missing a few stupidly easy close range targets (hence
thowing 7.5's in) but i soon realised that what i had assumed
was 1/4 choke was actually 1/2 choke (nb, lanber chokes have no
markings on them except notches at the top, 1 notch for full, 2
       for 3/4, 3 for 1/2, 4 for 1/4, etc - only found this out after a
quick online search with the phone). as soon as i put 1/4 choke
in then i was hitting most of the close range ones fine.
hope i havnt rambled on too much, should be taking the gun out
again tomorrow for a few more shots, but so far it works fine
and i'd say its well worth the money

thanks babby for the review it was a real shock for me when I
got a choke that actually said what it was instead of notches
       lol.
I would still have my lanber o/u only needed a gun steel proffed
       that's y I got te escort
might hada look into 1 of these ;)

no problem brendy, you know i spent a good 20 mins this morning
trying to work out why i could clip branches out of trees at 50
odd yards but i couldnt hit a slow moving crow going over my
head lol hmm i cant really compare lanbers and escorts much as i
havnt fired a normal escort yet, but in my mind theyre two
totally different types of guns, ill try to explain
(ps mines the mpa model, looks like this lol)
  HTML http://hatsan.com.tr/images/escort_photo/mpa.gif
anyway ill go out on a limb and say that going by my own escort
and the few "normal" escorts ive lifted in the shop, theyre
proper work horses, sturdy built, i'd class them in the same
group as the likes of mossbergs, etc - not always pretty looking
designed to get the job done no matter what you throw at them.
but the lanber i'd group along with the likes of beretta's, etc,
its the type of gun where you'd think twice about wading through
a river with it or crawling under fences with it, etc. i could
be wrong but it feels like its not designed for the rough
handling and abuse that proper working shotguns take :-\
ps if ur ever down this neck of the woods give me a shout and
ill let you take a look for yourself
