first shotgun to get

as some of u may know from my last post just i applied for my
fac but the issue am having now is whats the best shotgun for
the types of shooting im planing on doing im already in a clay
shooting club and am planing to go hunting as well but some of
the people i speak to say they would use a semi auto for both
then others would just use over and under for all there shooting
to be honest im liking the look of the semi but are they good
first time guns as a lot of people say they are famous for
jamming but u can pick them up cheapish please help ;D

IMO for your first shotgun go for something simple and reliable.
I prefer pump actions and semi auto's to any other type of
shotgun, but pump actions can be hard to get used to (tho
they're worth it) and personally I've never had a semi auto that
runs perfect out of the box, and that's benellis, mossbergs,
hatsans and even a brand new lanber today gave a few problems.
As much as I hate saying it, as I reallllly don't like them
myself, but an over and under as a first gun might be best for
you, especially if ur shootiń a lot of clays :-X

i was told to start on and over and under...did... and havent
looked back. i love them. easy to break down and clean. reliable
and as the other lads have mentioned safe. break her open to
cross ditches and stuff. my vote goes to the o/u. although go
for what pleases you as you want to be happy with what you have.

thanks lad for the advise am going up to a gun shop next week to
pick a shotgun so ill let you's know what one i got thanks again

it is really a personal choice. but me too would recommend an
o/u for a first gun ;)

The simple reason for people having new semi auto's jamming is
people NOT READING the instructions. With semi auto's it always
says THE FIRST 500 ROUNDS SHOULD BE HEAVY LOADS, so say at least
32 gram, better 36 gram, until its worn in. A BERETTA usually
runs in within 250 rounds though.
If you use just 28-30 gram loads, then expect jams until its run
in.
However, after its run in it should cycle most any round except
very weak and old cartridges.
My Beretta will even cycle 21 gram loads, but also 50 gram
loads, no problem.
That said, if you are not familiar with a shotgun, then to
increase safety (yours and others) I would advise one that you
can break the barrel (o/u or SBS) so ha everyone can see that it
can't fire.

not always ben :-\ my benelli refused to cycle anything under
32g, and it couldnt have been any more well run in, part of the
reason i got rid of it years ago. my mossberg 930 was a
nightmare at the start, gas piston constantly jamming and the
firing pin spring was far too heavy and needed shortened, plus
the part which holds the forend (at the bottom of the magazine
tube) broke, although once all that was sorted couldnt have
asked for a more reliable gun. my hatsan escort has been ok-ish,
few feeding and extraction problems at the start but seems ok
now, although its only had about 100 shells through it, and as
for the lanber im still not happy with the cocking handle on it,
should pop in and out simply, not have to be hammered in like we
had to do lol but ill maybe pull it apart later and drift that
pin out see whats up :(

Nope, its shouldn't just "pop in and out" as otherwise it will
fly out under use. The detant boring could do with being
"slightly" deeper (not a lot) and as regards the lever, it
should be able to be pulled out with pliers, but shouldn't
jiggle about once seated, which is what it does now
