Career in Firearms?

Anyone know of any information on how to get into a career in
firearms?
Im only 21 and its about time i started to do something i want
to do, and i thought it would be an interesting career if you
could get into it.

Anything really im open to ideas? Although stripping, cleaning
and testing or something like that would be good.

why dont you give gordon a call in hollow farm a see what
courses there are and were ,hes the only gunsmith i know most of
the others just sell

what exactly do you mean a career? alot of shops are interested
in people who can fit recoil pads, make stocks, do minor general
repairs (blueing, etc). i can do most of that though ive had to
cut back alot since moving house, due to not having a nice big
garage to do it all in, its now in the dining room - turned the
stock duplicator on 5 mins ago in the dining room and im bloody
deaf now, god knows what the neighbours were thinking ;D

I agree if your looking to fix etc it will be hard to get a
job!! When I got my .22 the safety wasn't working so took it
back but the firearms dealer just sent it away-turned out only
needed a strip and clean but they never even tried to fix it!!

I'd be looking something a bit more high tech than fitting
recoil pads and making stocks, i had thought on joining the army
but its a right big step and i'd need to pull my fitness level
away up and all

im assuming by that quote you dont actually realise the amount
of time and effort that goes into making stocks :D though ill
grant you that recoil pads are easy when youve got the right
tools and knowledge lol ;)
so what are we talking about here, what exactly do you want to
do? qualified gunsmith/armourer? gun manufacturer? firearms
designer? tbh theres feck all opportunities for it over here, as
much as i dont like using this other site heres a link to give

this
will show you the steps and processes involved in alot of the
work, its funny but after a while you realise that it comes down
to 40% having the right tools, 40% having the knowledge, and 20%
practice.
ps you could go down the armourer route in the army, but im
nearly sure (but dont quote me) that most of the work is now
carried out by the manufacturers under service agreements. any
armourers ive ever met seemed to spend most of their time
cleaning and oiling stuff, and shipping off the broken parts
that werent soldier proof ::)
