gun cleaning

thought this might be a subject we could if its not already
done,isee there is a few guys on here not long into the sport,i
thought we should give them the heads up as it is something
almost as important as safety,what oils or wax,weather condition
ect. after giving gun a drying if raining witch it normaly is a
pull through and good sprying of ballistol gun oil leave for a
while and wipe clean.ive heard that wd40 is bad news and 3in1 is
ok, whats your views.

Semi,s got it sussed! Although I,ve never tried it, he can,t
speak highly enough about fluglube! (Although I think I,ve spelt
it wrong)
Even better, he,s got a link for anyone interested in getting
the stuff.

I used wd40 once on a shot gun, just a quick covering coat on
the outside before i stuck it in the cabinet. Took it out a few
weeks later and there was a white scum had gathered on parts of
the barrel especially under the fore grip !
Do not use wd40 !
I use break free clp with no issues

i know a lot of guys that use wd40 maybe just because its cheap
and handy,but looked on the nett and they said that once it gets
into the workings of the gun its bad news as other good gun oils
cant stick to it rejects them.

The trouble with wd40 is as it ages it forms a gum like
substance. Also, anywhere it isn't, it will cause faster
rusting, and it binds damp, but where it isn't damp will form
and be pulled towards it.
Just use regular gun oil, either on a brush or as an aerosol,
either form will do

Got some froglube a few months back and yes its good stuff tho
on shotguns I find it still dosen't work that well on that
scummy residue thats left after using quantities of plastic wad
cartridges.
Any ideas?

when the guns have got soaked i dry them and set them in the
bath and cover them in wd40, then give them a full strip down,
clean and use proper oil about an hour later, or if im going out
and know theres a chance the guns will get wet i give them a
good coat of wd40. but its definitely a bad idea to spray it on
and leave it :-\
if they havnt got wet or fired alot of shots i normally just
give a quick wipe over with oil and use a bore snake to pull
through, i use hoppes bore cleaner on a bore snake followed by a
bit of oil, usually brings the barrels up well on shotguns and
rifles, though at least twice a year, or after every 250ish
shots, or if ive got a big day planned, then i give each gun a
complete strip, clean and inspection - use rods and brushes to
clean the barrels, strip down the bolts, leave the trigger
mechanism spotless, check o rings, clean gas ports, clean the
scope (windowlene, etc is good lol), make sure stocks, bipods
etc, havnt come loose, check chokes are ok, etc. seems like alot
of work but usually only takes half an hour per gun, apart from
keeping them in good condition it give you a chance to see if
anythings showing more signs of wear and tear than it should,
etc
