wats the proper way to use open sights?
I have an air rifle with a fibre optic sight on the front, when
i line the rear up with the front, does the front sight have to
be right on where i want to hit or do u have to use the top edge
of the front sight?

I was brought up shootin open sight rifles and was always taught
to shoot a very fine sight which seemed to work very well for me
back then.

I haven't used a fiver optic sight in years but what I remember
it was a small red rod that when you were aimed correctly it
would appear as a dot! There should be a screw to adjust the
fiber rod so as to zero it to your eye as everyone does tend to
shoos differently!!
Hope that helps a bit!

Is that the proper way to be using the sights. is the red dot
suppose to be the hitting point?

The red or green dot you see should obscure your target. It
should also rest in the notch or groove of the rear sight. If
you aren't hitting accurately this way, adopt a method that you
can hit with and make a reference point on the sights for
consistency.

But i think everyone uses the edge of the front sight as where
the bullet will hit, i read that somewhere on pistol shooting...

First look how you like the sight to be when shooting, then try
it on a target and adjust the sights so that they are hitting
the bull when you have the sights how YOU like them. Ideally the
fibre optic sight should be just n the base of the bull with the
pellets hitting directly above that so you can see the target at
all times, but some people like to "blot out" the target with
the front sight instead

As Ben said don't concentrate on how others do it set it up for
your eyes for best results!!
