Common Dolphin..

Don't let Common fool you. They are not as common as they used
to be, but this one has been hanging about in Vidlin Voe for the
past weeks, it seems to favour just off the Salmon cages..

I just got home from the Dolphin, and got a call from Mark, he
was watching a Basking Shark in Firths Voe, just round the
corner from where I live.. unfortunatly I did'nt see it.. oh for
a new pair o eyes. lol ..

The Common Dolphin is still at Vidlin Voe, it was very active
yesterday, it did a lot of jumping and tail walking while I was
there..
I fitted my 1.4x onto my 500mm lens, making it into a 700mm/
manual focus, as the Dolphin was really far away.. unfortunatly
I could only take pics in a southerly direction making the pics
look gloomy..

I watched the common dolphin for a few hours today, I set up my
camera on the banks [on the tripod] took my folding stool, midge
net [ and boy, I was glad of it ] The dolphin started in the
first hour quite slowly only jumping a few times. then it seemed
to come awake, and was doing all sorts of acrobatic jumps,
swimming on its back and tail walking, it was wonderful to watch
it. then at 1500 hours it left the voe following the oot
skeeries ferry, then veered left into the sea proper.. so i
don't know if it'll be back or not, Julie Redpath and I watched
it do the same thing last week, but it came back from the voes
mouth, but not this time.. anyway, you'll be wanting the pics I
took today. lol ..

How brilliant! You can see its eye there George. Bet he was

They were all taken in manual focus as it was so far away, i
used my 1.4x on my 500mm lens= so that gave me 700mm. i was
surprized they came out so well Lynne.. Well done on your rams,
they swept the board at the sheep show..

I watched the common dolphin for three hours yesterday, it kept
going to the sea, It did it three or four times in the three
hours I was there.. Just wish I could get a lift in a boat out
to the salmon station, this would get me closer to the dolphin..
Anyway this is the pics I took yesterday, it was again very
acrobatic, with jumping, swimming on its back, tailwalking and
every time it went back to the sea, it jumped clear of the
surface every 50 yds.
