Yeah that happens in bulldog every once in a while too, if you
run straight onto a wolf sometimes you end up directly behind
them, and the wolf never has a chance to strike.
Other strange glitches like this are:
upgraded farm being used as a stack (you can also, if you do it
fast enough, trap a shepherd between 2 upgradeds in the bottom
right stall area, with only a tiny space between them. I've done
it before, but it's insanely hard)

Can anyone shed some light on the mechanics of this?
How can I use this move in a game?

Sidey, it is simply just about timing, that stunt can happen
anywhere on the map, i am certain of it since that im a martial
art stuntman in general and performed moves like that, some are
luck based and others are timed, ill show an example of it one
day when i can be arsed, big regards

I'm pretty sure it's lag based. Back in de laggy old days lots
of weird impossible shit seemed to be commonplace.

Yeah naa Drew, Trollpro is right, it's got to do with timings of
where two units are, the shepherd got there first by a split
second, so instead of the sheep just getting blocked because it
was arriving almost at the same time, it just jumped to the
direction it was going. The reason why the Shepherd had missed
was because he was on the ramp of a hill attacking up. A unit
has a certain % chance to miss if its in said position.
Otherwise that would have been a MASSIVE extendo!

Well, I'm not exactly sure how it works, but Mike isn't right.

Nope. It is moved to the closest spot on the same cliff level.
When going up/down cliffs, this generally means behind other
unit.

Nope. The ChanceToMiss (when going up cliffs) is set to 0% in
ST. The bottom shepherd missed because the sheep moved beyond
the range of the range motion buffer (192).
This kind of glitch actually happens relatively often, it's just
very dramatic when going up/down cliffs. Ever see a shepherd get
pushed by a farm, sometimes getting trapped? This is the same
glitch.
