Admins/Mods on Trial
DIR By: FaceOfMelinda
Date: November 9, 2013, 4:15 pm

Currently I'm the only administrator and do 99% of the work.
Nomapgrid/mapgrid = is emergency/backup mod in case I'm not
around to deal with spam attacks/rampages etc.
Anything you feel we could do better? Or have done wrong? Let me
know here.
The current system I use for post-deletion is that I trashcan
threads that are low quality and I delete posts that are blatant
spam. It's too much work to move every single spam post I find
and that is why I've chosen to delete them instead. The only
posts that have been deleted are those that (typically) are
worse or at best equal to what is currently found in the
trashcan.
I'm often asked to delete more posts on the forum but not
everyone is Shakespeare and in the end we want everyone to
participate to the best of their ability (which is going to
vary).
This thread is not for chakra-ideas (e.g., change font size from
11.8 to 11.75 etc) and forum council/elder scrolls materials. We
can discuss that in the other threads. Forum council idea = I
would need a proposal (plan) etc rather than just baak baaks.
So yeah, fire away if you have any opinions about post
deletion/spam/general forum queries.

Give me admin for one day and I 100% promise to not do any
moderation, account deletion, etc. All I'll do is install mods
that fix some issues and change settings. IE, removing filters,
making deleted posts go into trashcan, blah blah. If I do
moderation you can exile me from community and eat my cookies.
I've been in this community forever and I have a clear history
of not doing grandiose evil. I might have Stalined some forums
or w/e, but I never destroyed clans, etc, etc.
If not me, make Exa admin for a brief moment.

I agree, chakra would not do anything to the well being of the
fourms, and he has been the moderator of many fourms, he has the
most experience and can do the best overall job for editing /
making fourms look more appealing.

I don't think mods should moderate their own threads (unless via
report by some other user). This spells bias.
This means encourage users to use report functionality and to
promote at least a second, active moderator.
Also, this clearly looks like a SMF forum, meaning it supports
near unlimited mods? If so, there are many that will replace the
default delete function with one that will move posts to
trashcan (and posts deleted from the same thread will be
concatenated).
Edit: chatcraft.net had SMF, and our deleted posts went into the
trashcan

Whenever you remove posts, move them into Trashcan in a seperate
topic.
Always write WHY you remove the post.
"Zero content" isn't even an explanation.
Who decides what's content and what isn't?
1 liner is no explanation aswell.
I saw alot of 1 liners in this forum not being removed but I
noticed the same amount of more than 1 liner posts being removed
for the reason "1 liner".

There is a certain bias of course, but perhaps not what you
think. I do tend to moderate certain threads I participate in
more than others simply because of my participation itself (more
attention on said thread). I also moderate threads differently
based on the discussion value of the topic. If an OP puts a lot
of effort into a thread I'm going to moderate it harder than a
regular thread.
There is no function to move individual posts. I have to move
the topic or split the topic. You can try to figure out a way by
creating another forum at this host. I 100% support that method
and would use it if I could.
The cut-off point I use for point deletion is that of the
quality of posts found in the trashcan forum. I have NEVER
deleted a post that is above quality of the trashcan. Any bias
would be in deleting/not deleting posts that are of trashcan
quality. I don't think that's a big problem.
Adding another moderator would be fine, although it introduces
different post deletion standards and more contingencies. Also,
I think another moderator - if I allowed that person to freely
moderate - would be a lot stricter than I am. I let SO MUCH go
by (for better or worse).
Also note that Jeanmii and others were outright lying in the
Disgusting People thread about their posts being deleted - I
posted the log even. Just be weary in what you believe. Like I
said, I have NEVER removed a post that was above the quality
found in the trashcan.
