Personality: Isaac is highly competitive, especially to stuck-up
and standoffish mages. He seems to be fueled by nothing but
spite, always looking toward greater heights in order to throw
people off of the mountains that he has climbed. When not
incensed by other people, Isaac is earnest and jovial toward
others, his sociability being great despite the inability to
speak.
Interests: Isaac is interested in the almighty power he believes
to be within the scope of mastering the natural sciences of his
world. He also quite enjoys music and writing, and is prone to
go off on a tangent about those subjects when he's not running
low on paper.
Motivations: With war, comes conflict. With conflict,
innovation. Isaac hopes to reach the pinnacle of alchemy through
the inspirational force of war. Specifically, he aims to make
Advents obsolete and change the order of his world.. Secretly,
Isaac hopes that he never succeeds.
History: Driven out of their original homes by incessant monster
attacks, the weakened and weary Drakthaw tribe of Sarrz had
finally found a place to call home. Carving their place in the
world with iron and steel and blazing a path with the fire and
flames of their trademark magic, they had built a name for
themselves further down south, far and away from monster
match-ups that they deemed too unfavorable to defend their
previous abode. The stars had blessed them that day, perfectly
timing the birth of the first child of the chieftain's wife on
that very day, the 31st of March. A preemptive celebration was
had, a festival made out to the honor of the chieftain and his
wife, the entirety of this small community giving their thanks
to the gods for delivering them from evil.
With bated breaths, the time had finally come two hours after
the original celebration, a full moon signifying midnight's
passage. The midwives did their jobs well, delivering a child at
no harm to the mother. Tension filled the air as the child was
carried into the mother's arms, yet not a sound was uttered from
the child's throat. The midwives were the first to show concern,
the father tossing their worries aside. His spawn would
certainly cry out his claim unto the world in mere moments, the
boy was simply saving his breath.
Hours passed, the child still did not cry. The mother's face
showed concern. In their culture, the child's muteness could
only be a result of Menos, the trickster spirit born of nature
known for causing defects within children whose parents did not
pay enough respect to the earth in life. Typically merely making
a child lame, or placing spots upon their skin, Isaac's curse
was beyond damning.
A mute child in a community of naturalist magicians could do
nothing but suffer, and the expectations that served as his
birthright as the chieftain's son only making it worse. If he
was discovered, the entirety of their community could be turned
upside-down, his mother and father usurped as a result of not
respecting the nature around them as they promised.
A moment of silent panic ensued, mother, father, and midwives
clashing with ideas on how to solve the current situation. That
is, until the second midwife, the Chieftan's mother and Isaac's
grandmother gave a solution.
"Change the Child"
Isaac's grandmother was known for her talents in transmutation
and alchemy, one of the few within the tribe to not know of any
directly offensive spells. Thus, she knew that although most
polymorphs wore off over time, it was possible to permanently
transform a child, although it was incredibly difficult. The
child would have a 20% rate of survival, as changing the very
nature of the boy's genetics to hide any resemblance would come
with unique dangers. The parents were given a choice; The tribe,
or the boy.
The choice was easy. The story would be covered up by the mother
and father as Menos returning the child to the wild as a
sacrifice unto the earth. The boy would return someday, to
permanently usher the tribe into an age of plenty. The first
midwife, Isaac's aunt, was to send both herself and the child
away to another tribe nearby with good relations to be raised by
her and her wife. No one would ever know.
None the wiser, Isaac knew nothing of his upbringing and
believed himself to always be his aunt's child despite the
impossibility of such a case. Although he was mute, Isaac had a
love of magic and the natural world, ensnaring himself into
alchemy at a young age as a way to understand the world around
him, to make sense of magic even if he couldn't actively
participate. His life was uneventful, learning more and more
about alchemy from books from an unknown source that his aunt
never named.
Then, the war arrived. Sarrz was willing to take any and all
under their wing in hopes of victory, and Isaac was willing to
participate in hopes of growing better at his craft as a result
of the conflict. Plus, the food was nicer than what he had at
home.
