When the Bloodmoon Comet collided with the surface of Myrrh, the
twisted creations of the Demiurge were not the only thing
mankind had to fear. The collision unearthed horrific,
chaos-born monsters not seen since the beginning of time.
Creatures spoken only of in tales and legends now once again
walked upon the world of Man.
With them came the Second Age of Discovery, in which cultures
across the world banded together to suppress the Alphas, the
first of Vanta's brood that was awakened after the collision of
the Bloodmoon Comet, no doubt knowing of the weakened state of
humanity. In this time, experimentation and invention were at
their peak, as races and cultures that were once antagonistic of
one another had to join forces to fight the oncoming threats. As
a result, the knowledge of magic became more widespread, and
hidden weapons of war that were once limited to select few
dynasties became more widespread, and their qualities bled into
modern equipment.
A force of the greatest wizards from each race, aided by the
remaining Titans soon created a spell that could, at least
temporarily, keep the Alphas trapped beneath the planet along
with the rest of Agaustus' damnable creations. The ultimate
ritual that was a mix of abjuration, conjuration, and evocation;
Severing Cage, one of the first spells to surpass the level of a
Thaumic Arte.
In their rush to quickly be rid of the monsters assaulting
Myrrh, something went horribly wrong. Soon after it was cast,
the monsters vanished. So did the wizards casting the spell.
Multiple towns came with them. In fact, all of the areas most
affected by the aftermath of the Bloodmoon Comet simply
vanished. Heroes that made their name from battling the Alphas
left behind disappeared along with their opponents. For a
moment, the world fell silent, as the vast majority of Myrrh's
mortal inhabitants forgot key memories related to both the
Bloodmoon Comet and Alliminia.
Underneath Myrrh, however, formed an endless dungeon that seemed
to swallow the concepts of fear and horror that the Bloodmoon
Comet event encapsulated and regurgitate its own brand of fear.
Now known as Vanta's Maw, very few dare traverse it. The few who
do are those contracted by empires, entire teams of dungeoneers
dedicated to unearthing the mysteries within. All who manage to
survive its chambers escape enlightened, their minds forced to
remember the events that all of humanity seemed to forget.
