Personality: Lex is a plain-spoken and bold individual. Defiant
and judgmental, he's quick to dismiss any and all who do not
follow the expectations that they set for themselves, leading to
his intense hatred of the Graftian nobility, a hatred that
extends to his own family. He is a tireless worker, and his
assiduous nature benefits him in his quest to create the
meritocratic Grafta he aims for. Furthermore, he is very
solutions oriented, and not the kind of person one should turn
to when they're looking for emotional support, although he'll do
his best.
To others, Lex is as vulgar and egocentric as the rest of the
Lockharts, but they'd never say such things to his face.
Motivations: Day by day, Lex aims to point out the hypocrisies
within Graftian society, rubbing them into the faces of the
nobility whenever given the chance. Despite his intense
criticisms of it, Lex also aims to repair the reputation of his
own family through countless acts of goodwill, stating that it
is his duty as someone blessed with nigh infinite opportunity to
recreate those opportunities for others.
History:
In retrospect, it's perfectly understandable how the Lockhart
family fell out of grace. Dan Grafta's history is vast, and the
stories that were once etched within the soil of the land and
carved within the minds of its citizens have been lost to the
sands of time, and typically only a select group of nobles are
given the full history of the land they are soon to govern. Now
consumed by the flames of civil unrest and rebellion, merely a
small portion of citizens know the old stories, and very few of
them believe any of it and dismiss them as nothing more than old
wives' tales. Regrettably, the legend of Lockhart is one of
those many stories.
Lauded as a master strategist and magus, Lockhart was one of the
few who were able to lay claim to their own territory within the
chaotic lands that soon became Dan Grafta. Born before the age
of the Pendragons, Lockhart usurped the previous leader of the
small community he took refuge in, and was known for his
penchant for insurrection and rebellion. Ambitious and
intelligent, Lockhart soon established a foothold within the
soon-to-be Dan Grafta, respected by many, and feared by most.
Soon, he enacted an equal partnership between him and Leon
Pendragon, the two small nations they governed having enough
power when together to unite all of Dan Grafta under one leader,
bringing finality to the age of constant warfare.
According to most retellings, he lacked a Unique Feature or
magical talent as his birthright. Despite this, his ability to
effectively organize groups of people toward a common goal
resulted in a semi-nation that could protect many from the
horrors that the Demiurge plagued the lands with after his
absence. The man was considered more a puppeteer than a real
combatant, and reportedly acquired followers through
manipulation and managing of resources. Leaders of other small
communities followed him out of a mutual interest, and believed
him to be utterly harmless. Yet, all other leaders that believed
themselves to be manipulating Lockhart would lose all power
within their own nations, their citizens overthrowing them. The
invincible would have blades of their own family members pierce
their necks, manipulators would find their citizens revolting
against them, and the exorbitantly wealthy would find that all
of their valuables to be reduced to nothing but dust. With each
and every detractor dying due to 'mysterious circumstances'
Lockharts power grew exponentially, his magic great enough to
vanquish dragons and test gods. And thus, his rule was
unquestioned within the relatively minor lands he governed. Even
though his legacy lives on today with the Lockhart royal
lineage, only those of his blood believe in his tale, and to
many its simply ridiculous to assert that a man born without
magical talent could grow into a threat that could rival even
Leon Pendragon with nothing more than backstabbing and trickery.
They laugh at the stories of Lockhart having a will great enough
to resist Right of Rule, and any who pass on such nonsense are
mocked.
Some, however, do believe in such stories. Lockhart's spirit
lives within the modern family known within Dan Grafta. Although
their blood connection to the original hero is routinely
questioned, the knowledge that the fictional stories left behind
ring true. Lockharts in Grafta's modern day are loud,
rambunctious, and rebellious. They are known as the likely
culprit behind the deaths of many of Grafta's emperors and their
families, and seen as a stain upon society. Regardless, even
their most vocal critics cannot argue against the relatively
small family's remarkable ability to govern the people they are
assigned to, as they are one of the few noble families in Grafta
respected by its people, and their respective house remains
unburned after the riots that wracked the nation.
The eldest of the current generation of Lockhart children, Lex
Lockhart is known by many aliases, a result of his true title
being deliberately obfuscated to many. The truth is limited to
only his closest confidants and countless jewel has been
sacrificed in order to hide who Lex truly is, deemed a necessity
due to the damning nature of his ancestry. This process began
with Lex as a reactive effort for his parents to ensure the
success of their son after their political mistakes, and soon
became a staple for the children who would follow in Lex's
footsteps. As a result of this, Lex was moved around constantly
as a child, randomly selected to be fostered by a group of
mentor figures and the few members of high society who could
afford to shelter him, including the Pendragons and the Heimos.
Even within those foster homes Lex was hidden, unknown to the
majority of his foster family.
