Salsvelian is an annual week of holidays
that celebrate the power of Jewel and its safe passage across
the economy that is celebrated with delight. Individuals often
save extra jewel just to be able to enjoy and indulge in the
day. Salsvelian is celebrated in a large majority of Myrrhs
holidays, being considered one of the most wide-spread of them
all. The Salsvelian-morrow is the week before Salsvelian, and
is often also treated as a part of it.
Salsvelian is a period of buying, selling, trading and more. The
exchange of money and the feeling of excess are the core tenants
of the holiday. Merchants, stores and bazaars all reduce their
prices for the masses and promote special sales: all of which
showcases the rich spirit of trade. Celebratees often relish in
their purchasing power, and their new-found goods regardless of
whether poor or rich, being thankful for what they do have to
spend.
The traditions that came to be known as Salsvelian was started
early on in Myrrhs history- with some saying it may have even
gone back to the age of gods and monsters. The earliest known
record is in 18 A.C, when the Budjergarians celebrated it for
two weeks as "Sals and Vels." The celebration was much simpler,
being about buying gifts for ones family or self, and less about
the power of Jewel. Merchants in Budjergaria often sold 'mystery
boxes' for extra cheap prices that held random items, being
basically the precursor to gambling. Many historians believe
that the term 'hotei pe fortuna dios' (may the god of fortune
smile upon you) took hold around this time, and there is ample
evidence that it also occurred with the spread of Jewel as the
global currency.
From there, the holiday quickly diffused and took grip in every
corner of Myrrh, oft riding along ancestral Mascu tradelines
with their business ventures, and began changing. As of this
day, Salvelian mixes Taminist themes (desire), mascu culture
(excess) and even views from the Unorthodox in the underworld
(importance of jewel) to become what it is today. The most used
color-theme for the day is a mixture of yellows(c) blacks and
greys to signify fortune; diamond-shapes are often used in
Salsvelian-themed objects to resemble the symbol of Jewel.
Common Salsvelian
spicy foods and hot beverages. One of the most beloved and
festive cuisines for the holiday within Radio is the 'satyr egg
croissant', a very spicy egg croissant covered in spices such as
saffron, eein and tawtaw.
