"So," Marco said, docking an arm over the back of his chair and
looking over at Rich. "What have you got for us?"
'This will be the mission that rises me up to Fourth Star Rank
in the army.' Saika thought. Her last mission was against
Kakuberas, stringy monsters that ate human scalps. There is no
way this mission could be weirder.
Rich paused long enough to bring his coffee back to the table.
"Okay, because investment sh1t is incredibly boring, let's skip
the gory details unless you need them. Jaeho is a Pantera Male,
light brown hair, scars on his left cheek and leg. He's one of
the greatest weapon masters Dan Grafta has ever known; he used
to be an instructor for the Academy even. Was one of our most
valuable."
"Are you sure the two of us will be able to knock out someone of
his skill level and take them into custody?"
"Oh, it won't just be the two of you. Patel will be joining you;
you know him, right?"
Saika knew him. When she had managed to break a record with her
speed of ascending through the chain of command to Fourth Star,
she had served under him for a few missions. Now, however, she
was on equal footing.
[in the halls]
Sena was a somewhat lean but very pink man, with fair skin. He
had this pink hair with a single white streak, and hair
ornaments strewn across his hair. Saika had crossed paths with
him a few times, having asked Sena to fix her kaiser knuckles a
few times too many.
"Ohh, just where might you be going, Saika?" said Sena with a
hint of curiosity. He was eyeing Saika's gear, a clear give-away
that she was going out for a difficult mission.
"My little flufferino!" he said, hugging his Canis oppais with
all of his heart. A proud-looking creature, it had joined Sena
on quite a few of his trips and missions; he had even officially
gotten the canis licensed as a 'guard pet'. Saika had even saw
them practicing a new battle-dance routine once before.
--
Gandar was waiting out front when Saika came out of the
building, leaning casually against one of the barrack's massive
windows and smoking some tobacco. Marco briefly scowled at him
through the window; Gandar just smiled and straightened up,
disintegrating the half-burnt cigarette out in a puff of dust.
Saika made an impatient little come on, let's go already gesture
as she continued without a word.
[ttsk in Kyohua]
Saika slept like a log.
"Today is the Penastral Countdown Festival, so the taverns and
cafés should still be open." said Gandar
"...It's perfect!" said Marco, looking at the mirror. His smile
was wide and it was almost as if his eyes wanted to jump out of
his sockets and dance.
--
"I actually accepted the mission so I meet my girlfriend here in
Kyohua, but she hasn't showed up yet. So I was just waiting
around to kill time." said Gandar
"Wait, your girlfriend? You actually have a love life? Color me
surprised." Saika said, flicking her smile on and off in a very
off-hand manner.
"..Anyway, I thought maybe you could use someone to walk you to
the festival."
"Fine. It might be boring if I go myself, anyway." said Saika.
She had one day to relax and enjoy herself before the mission
officially began. The hunt for Jaeho.
"There are many people in town celebrating, so if you get lost
trying to get somewhere, just ask around." said Gandar
--
"Take this. it's some spending cash. Don't waste it all on
junk." said Saika
Marco took the spending cash.

Kyohua - Part 2

The sun high in the sky, they plunged into the woods, brimming
with confidence, only to immediately lose their trail in the
thick brush, seeing nothing but vegetation in every direction.
The air was musty, humid, warm, and uncomfortable.
Aside from the occasional buzzing of bugs or birdcalls, the
forest is still, silent, and peaceful. As you weave your way
through the tangle, something caught Gandar's eye just up ahead.
Sunlight streams between the boughs above as you recompose
yourself and venture on. The day just keeps getting hotter, and
as you sweat, the dust hanging in the air sticks to your exposed
skin in itchy patches. The forest is unforgiving, the land
tumultuous. Ravines, ridges, boulders, dense patches, small
brooks, steep slopes, and ledges prevent any semblance of a
clear path, forcing you to wind through the maze of branches. As
you climb yet another hill, you see something out of the corner
of your eye...
Third Hour/Encounter
As the day gives way to afternoon, the number of bugs seem to
increase. The stinging, biting creatures become such a nuisance,
you are forced to cover up more, just to get relief from the
pests. Hoods raised, collars closed, sleeves unfurled and
clasped, pants tucked into boots, shirts tucked into belts,
anything to be free of their obnoxious interest. But as you wrap
up and bundle down, you only insulate your body more, making the
heat and humidity of the forest all the more unbearable! As you
stumble through the wilderness, struggling against discomfort,
you stumble upon...
Fourth Hour/Encounter
The density of this place is astounding. It is nearly impossible
to find a clear path. Even the animals who call this place home
struggle, or so it seems, as what few game trails you find are
short and end as abruptly as they began. It seems as though
everywhere you go, you are squeezing between tree trunks,
climbing over heaps of debris, crawling under massive
low-hanging branches, and otherwise rolling in the brush.
Everywhere you go, the forest clings to you. Burs find their way
into the very linings of your clothing, vines tangle and wrap
around your limbs at every turn, with every step your shoes
somehow become more caked with rich, steaming earth, broken
branches and other clutter dangle from you, caught on clothing,
straps, and buckles. You feel heavy, as if you are dragging the
weight of the woods everywhere with you as you go. Finally, you
wander into a wider game trail! Just before you on the trail
is...
"The art of Hyouhou." the man said. It was only now that Saika
realized that this man was a monk, likely for this very temple.
"A Hyouhou monk? Eiy, deities have mercy.." pleaded Marco as he
got up and stretched his legs. As he walked away, an almost
irritated look was visible on his face.
The precocious monk flipped out a book with their hand and
flipepd through the pages with that same hand. "Only through
meditation can we divulge our deepest weaknessses to the
Dragons. And thus, through this penance, we are freed from our
sins."
The sun is getting low now, the light is growing a golden
orange, painting the woods in faux autumn atire. The day has
been exhausting, and the work shows no sign of end. You are no
nearer to your destination than ever before, and still the
forest is as unpleasant as when you first set foot. The silence
and quiet, the light, the warmth, you'd nearly fall asleep were
it not for the aching in your legs and feet. As the day goes on,
your mind begins to wander, you think of days gone by, people
and places you were fond of, and the moments leading you to this
lush hell- but you are suddenly jerked alert by...
Sixth Hour/Encounter
It's sunset now. You can see the golds, pinks, and purples
through the mass of branch and leaf above. The air has cooled
slightly. You can hear a gentle breeze in the leafy canopy
above, but the thickness of the forest prevents its kiss from
reaching you. In the distance, you hear the croaking of frogs
and chirping of crickets. The forest is slowly waking up for the
night. Clouds of insects now hover in the air, and you find
yourself taking wide paths to avoid them. As you turn to take
another direction, you stop in your tracks.
The glimmers of the sky through the branches above slowly turns
a deeper blue, as the sun rests upon the horizon. In the dim
twilight of the late day, Saika and gang marched on. The air
continued to cool, and the sweaty dampness of their midday treck
begins to dry. The cool air, though only a slight change, is so
deeply refreshing, it almost filled her with vigor and lightened
your step.
"Is it just me, or is Kyohua actually.. kind of nice?" said
Gandar in a complete one-eighty.
As the last of day's light slips beneath the horizon, and the
night's first stars twinkle to life in the heavens above, the
trio hit a break in the thick. They stumble out into open air,
battered and bruised, the cool evening breeze is welcoming.
Before them, recessed into the floor of the clearing, is Silvers
Shrine Temple.
"Took us long enough." said Marco
Ten hooded figures stood on top of the roof of the temple, each
gazing at the trio. They were dressed almost like nuns; no, in
fact they visually were nuns.
The hooded figures docked their muskets before firing upon the
trio.
"Evasive maneuvers!" Saika yelled as they rolled into the nearby
forest, hiding among the trees and bushes. The sound of each
bullet whizzing by bumped her heartrates up significantly.
They amassed around them, taking out various melee weapons;
katanas, flails and daggers.
Marco was rummaging around in his backpack, looking for
something. "If I'd known we were going to have company I'd have
laid in more supplies," he said, fretting. His search produced a
sheet of explosive paper, which she pressed into Saika's
outstretched hand. "Use this !"
Each moved like a shadow, two of them chasing after Marco, their
steps silent and quick.
One of the nuns leaped infront of Saika, throwing multiple
attacks at her that she dodged easily, before retaliating. A
fist to the chest stopped her attacker's heart, as she continued
to watch out for more shots from above.

Kyohua - Part 3
By: Chente Date: December 10, 2019, 4:01 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
"Are you Jaeho of the Nine Styles?"
Gandar rushed forward, his footsteps echoing as he raised his
butcher axe before leaping into the air and swinging down with
his butcheraxe. The ground broke beneath them as pieces of rock
flew everywhere and dust clouded the area; but then something
unexpected happened. Jaeho stood in the crater, having grabbed
Gandar's axe with one hand, holding it by its edge. "Ggh.."
Gandar grunted, grimacing. The two visually struggled against
each others strength, although it was clear Jaeho was winning.
With one heavy motion, Jaeho disarmed Gandar and threw the blade
out of his hands as it landed stuck in the ground. A loud thud
could be heard soon after as he coughed up blood, falling to
their knees. Saikas' face tensed up, seeing Gandar having been
knocked down with a single blow.
"I'll take care of this." Saika walked towards Jaeho with her
eyes closed.
Saika slid her Kaiser knuckles on, raising her sleeve briefly.
The two stared eachother down, a gust of wind blowing past them
and twirling Saik's hair.
Saika silently jumped forward, thrusting her knuckles forward at
Jaeho's face as her mana fluctuated around it. Before it made
impact however, Jaeho took hold of Gandar's butcheraxe, swinging
it forward with exceptional dexterity. The two weapons clashed,
Saika being sent backwards as she landed, skidding across the
ground and almost losing her balance.
Saika took one more silent jump over Jaeho's stolen weapon, the
edge just inches away from her face as she looked down on it.
She was never one to fight fair against swords, and this time
was going to be no different. Saika dived upside-down and
dropped her hands on the axe, pinning it to the ground with a
loud clang. The next moment, she swung her feet in a rotation to
land a definitive kick on Jaeho.
Gandar and Marco both smirked, as the flow of the battle had
seemed to change in that one decisive attack, Jaeho dropping the
axe.
Saika instinctively leaped off the blade and guarded, expecting
an attack. But one did not come; instead, Jaeho seemed to be
acting out the exact same thing Saika did. After he finished the
copycat performance, he spoke. "I'll remember that trick.
Holding down a weapon with your hands in order to leave a hole
in their defence for your feet. You've taught me something
today, girlie."
Saika kicked the axe back to Gndar before taking stance, unsure
of what Jaeho was attempting to do. Learning your opponent's
style mid-combat is one thing, but acting it out is another.
"Right then. I guess I need to respond in kind to such marvelous
fighting, right?" said Jaeho as he crac6ed his neck and
distanced out his feet. A flash crossed his eyes as he tossed up
his backpack, three different weapons flying out of it: a
twinblade, a hand axe and a small lance.
"Bloody hell, so many weapons at once.. This guy is experienced,
Saika, careful!"
The three weapons dropped, the hand axe into his left hand, the
small lance into his right and finally the twinblade into his
mouth. "Now be ready, this time I'll give you a treat. These
nine styles will have you beat, heh."
"..Huh?" said Marco
"What in the hells is that stance?" said Gandar with a confused,
almost annoyed look on his face.
Jaeho rushed at Saika as she primed herself, guarding an attack
from his hand axe with her knuckles.
The two clashed with a loud *tang*, before Saika found herself
swinging her head to dodge lance thrusts off of instinct. This
was no ordinary fighting style-- infact, it appeared to be
three. Perhaps the legend wasn't all just myth and legend.
Saika parried one of Jaeho's axe swings, pushing Jaeho back and
onto the floor in what would normally be an advantage state, but
instead of landing hard, Jaeho performed a hand stand and swung
his twinblade with his mouth. Saika continued to play on the
defense, finding no opportune time for a counter attack.
Whenever Jaeho would miss or find one weapon deflected, he would
simply use another to seal the hole in his defenses.
Jaeho crouched under one of Saika's ill-fated punches, before
kicking her up into the air and pursuing her after. The two
swung at eachother repeatedly, each attack failing to make
impact, though Saika could tell she was only just barely keeping
up. A surprise kick came for her face as she blocked it with one
of her arms, knocked back down with a rough but stable landing.
Jaeho threw two of his weapons at Saika before he landed, as she
rolled out of the way of each of them. Promptly picking them up,
he continued to chase after her with no moment of respite. It
was then she was truly overwhelmed, as Jaeho swung all three
weapons with absolute skill and experience and even tossed them
into the air, landing shallow but visible, bleeding cuts on
Saika's cheek, elbow and dominant leg.
Saika's eyes were practically bugging out as she tried her
hardest to focus on all three weapons, her gaze shifting rapidly
between them. She gasped suddenly as she looked up, before a
strong punch collided with her face, sending her sliding, then
rolling along the ground.
"Saika, are you all right?!" yelled Marco
"Those movements of his are too much to get a hang of. He
switched between three styles for each weapon..!" said Gandar
Saika got up and grunted, keeping a calm expression on her face
as a blue aura of mana covered her hands, flowing like liquid.
"A Final Gateway.. she's going to use somethin' that he won't be
able to move after." thought Marco
Jaeho softened his pose as he looked at Saika, gritting his
teeth around his twinblade as Saika ran at him. Putting her
hands together as the aura continued to flourish around them,
Saika lunged and took care to dodge any possible wounding
attacks from his weapons. She struck Jaeho with the First
Blossom of her attack, a blue flash occurring; or at least
that's what it looked like. In truth, her attack failed to make
an impact with Jaeho's magic leylines or his chakras-- instead
being repelled by a blue field.
"No way... Mana Reinforcement.. this strong?!" exclaimed Saika
as surprise lit up over her face and she grit her teeth.
"He blocked it! Hes better with reinforcement then Saika..?"
Marco thought
"That'll do it. Nine Styles.." yelled Jaeho as he pushed back
Saika's fists and put her off balance. The next instant was a
blur, albeit a very painful one for Saika. All three of Jaeho's
weapons were lodged in Saika's body, wounds now covering her as
her blood flew through the air and splattered onto the ground.
"Gouge!"
Once again, Saika's body slid across the ground, although this
time she was unable to get up. Jaeho pursued her once again,
having taken almost no pause during their entire bout. A small
blade had somehow ended up in his hands during this.
"Saika, hold on!" yelled Gandar as he ran towards Saika, Marco
following him. With a twist of his axe, he guarded Saika against
Jaeho's slash. The two struggled against each other briefly,
however, Jaeho funneled mana through his weapon, enhancing his
strike as he slowly began to cut through Gandar's axe.
Breathing heavily, Saika tapped the other side of Gandar's ax,
the tables suddenly turned, leaving Jaeho shook. Taking
advantage of the surprise, Gandar flipped his blade and thrust
the blunt end into Jaehos face with all his might, knocking him
into a wall and disarming him. The wall broke apart, forming a
crater as dust and debris hovered in the air.
Marco moved to Saika's side and began pulling out the three
weapons by one while releasing a pink glow from his hands that
stropped the bleeding, her struggled breaths and attempts to not
move masking her winces of pain. Her blood dripped from the
three weapons as Marco looked over her injured body. "She's
going into shock.. no. Hang in there, please, Saika!"
"[The spider that weaves life. Blessed string.]", said Marco as
he moved his two hands over her wounds for exactly three seconds
for each large one, and one second for each small one. His
chants were rhythmic and purposeful. Magic began to surround and
infuse into Saika as her cuts and wounds all closed, smoke
emanating from each of them. The bruises she had before were
invisible as well.
Jaehos eyes shifted between his three attackers. He had already
gotten back up, standing on top of a statue with Gandar staring
him down, axe ready. "She overpowered the flow of my mana by
forcing her own through his weapon into mine, a complete
cancellation. And by funneling it earlier through her body, she
avoided a mortal injury. And that man is an experienced expert
in both healing magick and doctoring. If the other one is as
intelligent as those two.. hmhm." He licked his lips.
[fight part 3]
Saika wheezed as the pallor began to retreat, the life quickly
returning to her visage. Shaking, she rose up slowly. "Good
timing." she whispered to Marco with a sense of relief and small
undertones of gratitude.
"Marco, guard his weapons, even the small one he brought out. If
he's as legendary as they say he is, we're better off leaving
him disarmed. Gandar, the two of us will take care of him. The
fact is, this guys' incredibly strong. So we need to go after
him like we're trying to kill him."
"This battle's only just begun, imperial idjits. You deceive
because you yearn for the truth. You yearn for truth because you
deceive! That is the sickening way of this nation. One of its
very founding principles, and for your ignorance in that, youse
is already a buffooning sheep!"
"That's enough! Time to take a nap!" cried Gandar. Both he and
Saika rushed at Jaeho, attacking him with a fierce combo of
attacks. Jaeho leaped over the two, dodging multiple of their
attacks and performing Ukemi on the ones he couldn't,
practically dancing between the two. Finding an opportunity in
this chaos, Saika would thrust her fist forward and cover it
with dense mana to lunge for Jaehos' neck, trying over and over.
His attention was entirely on her, clearly concerned about how
destructive one of her punches would be.
"[Frigid blades, rise up and consume the ground!]" chanted
Gandar just as Saika was bulldozed out of the way.
"A sublime ending to this idiocy!" yelled Jaeho as he leaped
above Gandar, coming down with his leg like a guillotine.
"[Ice Pillar!]" finished Gandar as a large pillar of ice
surrounded both him and Jaeho, immobilizing both of them. "Now
Saika!" he rattled underneath the ice monotonely.
"We have to fight like they were trying to kill him." Saika
thought as she braced herself. With one intense chop, she
struck the ice with force, breaking it apart and firing a Final
Gateway straight towards Jaehos' heart. "Kyaaa!"
"Aaaa-ghh!!" screamed Jaeho as he held his chest, before
transforming into a white, earthy substance that proceeded to
dissolve in front of the three, the chalk being blown off by the
wind
Saika held Gandar up before he collapsed, checking on him to
make sure she didn't injure him badly. No longer noticing the
chalk, she turned towards her other teammate. "So he can turn
into Chalk. Marco!"
"Right." Marco put his index finger to his throat and closed his
eyes. This was his signature Transmission technique, a rare but
very useful ability. A form of sensory far beyond almost any
other means, able to detect soul signatures from many, many
yalms away. After a quarter of a minute, he pointed towards the
temple's entrance. "He's over there!"
Darting off towards her target, Saika ran as fast as her legs
could take her, refusing to allow him to escape. "Marco, stay on
his position constantly. Gandar, take the rearguard and see if
we can flank him."
--
"[Surge of Water.]" chanted Gandar as a sizable wave of water
came from beneath him and circled around him, deflecting Jaeho's
weapon with ease.
"You know both aquamancy and cryomancy? Excellent skills, man!
However, what will you do about my Chalk Technique from above?"
With a motion of his fingers, thin, spread masses of chalk
rained down and clashed with Gandar's current of water, a large
cloud of smoke coming from the impact. As it cleared, Gandar
realized a white, gel like liquid was over him now, slowing his
movements. He struggled, attempting to shake off the resulting
white goop off of his body. "Disgusting! He diluted the water
spell with that attack.."
Jaeho tilted his head to see a distressed Saika circling back
around "Yes, but that isn't all. At the same time, Chalk
Technique!" yelled Jaeho as large, geometric shapes of chalk all
around Gandar. The objects
With a strong hit from her palm, Saika broke each of the
geometric shapes before they could reach Gandar, emitting her
Final Gateway. She was nearly breathless from this strong
struggle as she straightened her stance and focused. "This man
is quick, skilled, and has dangerous abilities. I need to stay
on gua--" she thought before her line of thinking shifted to the
movements in front of her.
Saika's eyes lit in surprise as Jaeho leaped in a single bound
from his spot at rocket speed, closing the distance between him
and Saika. But more concerning was the stance he was making as
he finished his leap. She could tell each part of that stance
apart: monkey style, raptor style, phoenix, tiger even
butterfly. Disarming him probably meant little in the long run:
he was capable of using multiple forms of hand-to-hand martial
arts.
--
"Nine Styles! Execution!" yelled Jaeho in a sort of fervor as
