"Father, please--"
His father held him by the throat by the wall, pulling him up
against it. "And what are you going to do about it, punk? Yeah,
that's right. Nothing."

He opened his eyes, as his thoughts cleared. Laying on a patch
of grass, his face towards the sky.
"Just a bit of daydreaming, Ran." he said. "Anyway, how close
are we to Carmelia forest now? A few thousand yalms or so?"

"High-quality and thick nigelberries. Fun fact: the thicker the
berry, the sweeter the *juice*," said the Merchant, hovering
their hand over the berries briefly.

"So this is Carmelia Forest, huh?" said Yen.
They both suddenly tensed up and leaped from each other, dodging
three bullets which pierced into the ground, a distinct firing
sound as they slid on landing.
"So who do we owe the pleasure of beating up for shooting those
three bulle--" said Ranmaru before he paused, recognizing the
craftsmanship of the now depleted bullet shells. "That marking!
T-the... Holy See? But those bullets are ancient and.." he
continued on.
"Found you," said a voice, as a familiar woman dropped down onto
the road. "It's been a while, Ranmaru and Yen. You're alone I
see, none of your pesky companions are within three-hundred
yalms of us."

Ranmaru took out his weapon before entering stance, Yen
following shortly after. Ranmarus eyes darted all over in search
of Velvet. "Careful, Yen! She can teleport, remember?"
"Like I'd forget." chimed Yen, brandishing his sword as he
stepped backward. "Ranmaru, let's go with that formation."
"Right," said Ranmaru as he took a few steps back, kicking a
small plank of wood in the process. "Careful," he repeated.
"Raining Fangs!" yelled Yen as he leaped upward, swinging
towards the ground as multiple slashing shockwaves came from his
blade, falling in Velvets direction. But in the blink of an eye,
Velvet vanished from his sight and a cautious Yen whipped around
with his blade, swinging at the air near him. He landed soon
after, realizing that she had simply rolled to the side of his
attack.
"As soon as you didn't see me, you defensively swung. So you've
already thought up precautions for my ability; not bad. What
happened to your old sword, though?" said Velvet, focused on
Yen's blade.
"Tossed it. Gave some bad vibes, yeah?" said Yen
Velvet narrowed her eyes before taking a step forward. She
lunged at Yen as he swung back, a clash coming from the impact
of their weapons. Soon after, Velvet crouched, before swinging
their leg upwards at Yen, who had raised their arms defensively,
an audible thud upon their bodies colliding, as Yen summoned a
sigil below himself.
"[Gracious winds, dance around them like petals..]" chanted Yen.
From just in her view, Velvet saw Ranmaru jump kicking towards
her, parrying with her gauntlets, as both were flung backward
into freefall. As Ranmaru blinked, Velvet practically vanished
with their speed, reappearing in front of Velvet and wrapping
their arm around their upper chest. Ranmaru gasped, taken by
surprise as the arm stiffly strikes into their chest and forced
him down onto the ground, something reminiscent of a clothesline
attack. Using strange aerodynamic postures and something
reminiscent of hovering, Velvet knocked herself forward from
Ranmaru, flying a safe distance away.
"[Wind Blade!]" yelled Yen, as a blade of wind burst forth,
flying at Mach speeds towards his target. Kicking off the ground
with an audible grunt and turning, Velvet hopped upward and spun
mid-air around the blade of wind, free-floating. In that exact
same moment, Ranmaru brandished his bow, taking aim, his eye
slightly stuttering. "Impetus!" he yelled, firing a dozen arrows
at once, each homing towards Velvet.
Dodging a few arrows, Velvet free-falled onto a tree, landing on
one of its branches. Leaping from branch to branch as fast as
she could, she dodged most of Ranmarus arrows, each creating an
impact crater on the tree.
Blinking, Ranmaru took a deep breath, before charging up the
tree, running along its side in chase after Velvet like a ninja.
Tossing his bow aside for the moment, he two-handed his mace, a
distinct sound from it sliding across the tree he was running
up, breaking the tree apart, debris falling. Running up, he
leaped above, before coming down with his mace and breaking the
tree apart.
A brief moment of near silence, as both leaped out of a cloud of
dust, the pieces of debris from the tree beginning to fall as
they dashed at each other. Velvet flipped over Ranmaru just
before impact, swinging her foot around and kicking Ranmaru
backward, knocking him towards another tree. Just in time,
however, Ranmaru moves his hands to land on the tree, pushing
himself back off of it towards Velvet like a bullet.
Sidestepping, Velvet grabbed Ranmarus legs as he went by,
swinging him around before tossing him onto the ground.
Ranmaru went into wild sweeping swings of his mace, the first
scratching Velvet's cheek, a bleeding cut visible on her as
Ranmaru moved to dodge or parry each of her attacks. Sweat
rolled down his forehead as he kept up perfectly with her, each
clash uttering an audible 'clang', mixing in with the sound of
the crashing debris. Raising his weapon up again, Ranmaru swung
at Velvet as her eye gleamed. Quickly shifting, she grabbed
Ranmarus main hand, who emitted an audible grunt as his swing
was stopped. "Ghh!"
"[Thunder Blade!]" yelled Yen, as he pointed his blade in
Velvet's direction. A wave of electricity began to fly around
him before forming into a bolt of static lightning, sparks
flying off of it and burning the grass. Soon after, in the flash
of an eye the lightning blasted forward at Velvet with a bright
flash. Yen squinted as a large explosion occurred at the impact
point, fire and smoke rising up. The smell of ash emanated from
the impact point of the lightning bolt with a vapor-like hiss
sound.
"..Sh1t!, she teleported!" said Yen
"Take this!" cried out Velvet, as she quickly thrusted her hand
forward at Ranmaru's now open face. Blood splattered from
Ranmarus face as the punch connects straight and directly, a
very audible thud resounding through the clearing as he was
flung back onto the road. As he was flung, Velvet exhaled, smoke
emitting from her fists before a wry smirk appeared on her face.
"Stormhands Success."
"Ranmaru!" yelled Yen.
"I'm not just a 'forgettable stepping stone' for you anymore.
I'm here with a purpose." said Velvet.
"Why are you even fighting us, Velvet? Natalie is more than
dead-- she's completely gone. Her ambitions are dead, and theres
nothing left for you to fight for." said Ranmaru, wheezing
lightly as he winced from the pain.
"You all took EVERYTHING from me! I had a purpose, I was a. You
deconstructed the Holy See, turned the people against them.
Then, you all killed Naoko, and just a year after, our beloved
Natalie. And the worst part? Nobody remembers!" agonized Velvet,
with a falsetto smile. A pained chuckle left her cusped lips as
her eye briefly twitched. An almost piteous look shone in Yen's
eyes as he saw her.
Velvet snorted and briefly closed her eyes, disarming her
gauntlets for the moment. "You all enjoyed your happily ever
after, and we 'villains' failed. But nobody even remembers us."
Yen coughed. "We made that mistake once, yes, but we learned
from it! We didn't reset it this time, infact I fought Lore just
for this!" he said, walking slowly towards Velvet
"Oh, so our story was just your first accident, huh?" Velvet
walked counterclockwise away from Yen, each step of her greaves
leaving a warped footprint in the grass.
Ranmaru began to rise off the ground, rubbing the blood from his
face with his sleeve. "It wasn't an accident! We lived through
that pain, too!" he yelled , an ache in his chest that wasn't
just the physical reality of getting punched. His voice sounded
clogged-up and whiny due to his now broken nose.

Yen and Ranmaru fist-bumped, as they both ran towards Velvet
quickly, practically skating across the ground.
Ranmaru ducked, before uppercutting, landing a blow deep in her
abdomen as she loudly coughed, spit coming from her mouth.
"Incanarge!" yelled Yen as he slid his blade across the ground,
firing a wild and triangular blast at Velvet!
