/>Kingdom of Elonia {Stalemate}"
--- End Quote ---
The War of Bishuétz was a long conflict that occurred during the
years 183 A.C to 187 A.C, and was fought between Apondis and the
once existing nation of Elonia, its southern neighbor. At the
time, Apondis comprised of its current territory, along with a
few sparse villages in other areas, and was considering a small
Kingdom. Apondis was ruled by King Denamda II, while its
neighboring kingdom, Elonia, was ruled by King Devanne III.
Apondis was defended by the Order of the Spears, led by Sir
Tepestal Beoulf.
Strife erupted at Boreas, a once independent province near to
Ivalice's border and now under Elonia rule. Many centuries ago,
Elonia invaded and assimilated Zelmonia. Apondis had secretly
provided means to weaken Elonia; however, the Boresian
aristocracy decided to petition for King Denamda's direct
intervention. King Devanne III died without naming a successor.
His cousin Varoi VI was named as successor, but King Denamda II
proclaimed himself as rightful heir, being Devanne's uncle, and
declared war against Elonia.
The Viura Campaign
King Denamda II led the Apondian army towards the Elonian
capital of Viura. On their way, knights of the Order of the
Spears fought valiantly, winning battle after battle. As they
were reaching the Elonian border, King Denamda II fell ill and
died soon after, never able to return to his kingdom. The
Apondian army became lost and confused due to their leader's
death and this was used as an opportunity for Elonia to
strengthen their army and defend the Elonian borders. The war
was fought fiercely, reaching a stalemate. A successor to
Denamda II, Denamda IV, was pulled to the throne to replace his
father.
Romanda's invasion
During the stalemate, Onyx armies crossed the barrier from the
underworld in an invasion upon Apondis. The Onyx was a military
nation ruled by a blood relative to its undead leader. King
Denamda IV and his Apondian army held off the invasion through
the aid of Baladds ruler at the time, Grand Duke Otto Saxony,
and his assassination squad Kama.
After three years of fighting, the Onyx ended up retreating.
King Denamda IV was a fearless warrior who personally led his
armies in battles against the combined forces of Onyx and
Elonia. The outbreak of the Dancing Plague within Elonia also
led to their retreat.
Denamda IV's death
With the Onyxs retreat, Apondis continued on with the war
against Elonia. Denamda IV died suddenly, believed to be
assassinated. He was succeeded by King Ondoria Atkascha III,
although the king was a weak-willed man and unfit to rule, and
all his decisions being made by his Queen Adele.
Elonia's ruler Varoi VI also died, and was replaced by Prince
Leonard. Due to Ondoria's weakness, Elonia forced Apondis to
cease fighting.
Apondis's surrender
The last battle between Apondis and Elonia took place in
Zeltennia, and though the Knights of the Spear fought bravely,
Elonia invaded Boreas. Apondis and Elonia agreed to a mutual
peace treaty though whispers persist that in reality, Apondis
had surrendered.
Aftermath
After the Bishuetz War, Apondis suffered a great loss as the
people harbored ill feelings and dissatisfaction to the nobles
and the royal family who placed them in the meaningless war.
Farmers staged riots and revolted, and many turned banners to
join the Corpse Brigade. Apondis's economy suffered as payments
could not be made to the knights who had fought in the war due
to the spending on weapons and defenses. Many were discharged
from the army, and with less food and little money, there was
high unemployment and disloyalty to the ruling factions grew.
These factors altogether caused the end of Apondis's golden age.
King Ondoria's two sons died, and the king adopted his younger
sister, Princess Jeanne, as his daughter. Soon after, Queen
Adele gave birth to Prince Luise, causing a conflict over who to
become King Ondoria's successor.
Rumors spread of King Ondoria's failing health. Since his
collapse during Prince Orinus's birthday celebration, it was
obvious he was on the brink of death. His advisers, the Board of
Chamberlains, delivered news the king was getting better, but
the people knew the truth. Soon rumors surfaced that Queen Adele
and other nobles had argued over his successor.
